Loss of turn by turn and pink line of doom

Hi all, first post after being driven to despair by my 1030

First of all, my head unit has lost the ability to give me turn by turn directions. It will give the advice "follow route" and show the course on the map but will no longer give "turn left down XXX road" notifications and "time to point" like it used to

Secondly, and maybe a related issue. Despite having plotting my own courses in GC and sending them to the accursed 1030 with no issues, whenever I ask to follow a saved course for a ride it will begin an endless cycle of "calculating..." slowly ticking to 100% before starting again. I have to tap the screen each time to refresh it, or it will lock/freeze on the point where it was when it restarted the endless "calculating..." loop. The head unit inserts a straight line from a random point on the map straight back to the start. This may be causing the navigation issue. See attached image. There was not a road there, in in real life or on my plotted course from Garmin Connect ...

I am well aware of Garmin’s reputation for bugs and for not fixing them and really suffered with my 1000… but until recently my 1030 had been flawless. It gave me turn-by-turn navigation on 10 days of LEJOG with no issues.  Now I want to set fire to it.

I've removed user settings which didn't help. I've reinstalled the version of maps (Routable map of Europe 2020.10) which didn’t help. I've got software 9.34. Grateful for any advice anyone can offer
