ANT+ Dropout

Holy Crap! For $600 I've got a unit that can't connect to my power meter or heart rate. My iPhone 7 can do it, my 10 year old edge 500 can do it but not this state of the art POS. WTF garmin. Please get your *** together. If someone wants to buy this, please let me know. I'll use that money an get a Wahoo or Hammerhead Karoo. FFS, even the Cateye computers can at least connect to the sensors. I had a Edge 1000 before the power button broke, and this UI is 10x worse than that was. At this point, I really have no idea why I keep giving this *** company my money.

  • Latest Beta has introduced fixes related to this. So expect a fix in the next release. In my case it just reconnects itself very quickly so it is an annoyance but not a real problem.

  • I rode with the latest beta 9.48 today and I got disconnects. So sounds like they issues has not been fixed... I agree this is most annoying.

  • I seem to be having similar problems with my Edge 820. Works sometimes, then everything drops out, including my HR monitor. Everything is connected via ANT+, plus shouldn't be a problem. TR is fine. Zwift is fine, and data in Strava is fine. Garmin Connect--not to much. Most of the metrics are useless at this point. Not sure what the issue is. I thought I might purchase the 1030 to fix this, but looks like even the 1030 is having problems. Any solid Edge products working well with the Vector 3's? BTW, I'm using this with a Saris Hammer 3, that is solid with each of these other apps. TIA.

I am having the same trouble with my 1030 only don’t have a power meter I have a Garmin HR strap and a Garmin cadence sender. If I pause the activity and restart it all connectivity is lost until I turn the device off and restart it.

  • It's a year later and still no resolved, wasted money because I can't measure incomplete stats

  • Did you try also another HR, or when cycling with someone elso to pick up his signals ?

So you can find out if it's the 1030 having the problem or your ANT-devices.

I'm using wahoo HR on ANT+, Garmin Speed on ANT+ and Giant powermeter/cadense on ANT+ and never any problem.

on my 1030 (owner of it since February 2019)

  • The problem is with the 1030, already connected all my sensors (Favero pedals, Garmin pro hr strap, bkool trainer) to another device and my PC, they stay connected, when connected to the 1030 some or all would disconnect while riding and later it's found again.

  • I've encountered a 4sec Sensor dropout of my powermeter on my Edge 1030 today. Same workout recorded by ANT+ Dongle on PC didn't show this dropout, so this is still an Edge issue, even with todays firmware. My Speed Sensor also dis- and reconnects 3-4 times during the ride. Very disappointing.

  • Just had a dropout of all ANT+ this evening on 12.20.  Varia, speed/cadence, power, HR.

  • I'm having the exact same issues with my Edge 530. Garmin has replaced the speed sensor and my heart rate monitor. I recently bought vector 3 pedals ($1k CDN). Everything connecting and disconnecting constantly. The data is unusable.

I talked to a Garmin rep today he said the problem lies with the Ant+ chip manufacturer. Sounds like a hardware issue - I would not expect it to ever get resolved without a recall.

Garmin offered to replace my Edge 530 (with same faulty Ant+ chip),  but with all these issues and knowing what I do about hardware I think I am just going to ask for my money back for everything.

Whoever heard of a tracking company that specializes in recording stats that can't record stats properly! Unsure how something like this could ever pass testing.
