You can but the gloves have to be special gloves that allow your finger to connect. Just like smart phones. I sew in conductive thread on the tip of one finger and this has worked very well.

I would say it depends on gloves. I have had problems with my Mammoth gloves, I need always remove those to be able to use touch screen. But regular leather gloves works just fine.

No, most of my older full finger cycling gloves won't work with the screen on the 1030 (they're fine with the screen on the 1000). The only ones that work are the ones that say they're specifically for use with a touch screen.

Some older gloves work , some don’t.

Some newer gloves ( not all ) have a special tip on a couple of fingers.

if you slightly moisten the finger tip it can work on some older gloves. 

Winter gloves don't work at all unless they have the special tip. This is especially true if you are wearing glove liners in the glove. I suppose thin leather gloves would work but I doubt they work as well as no gloves.  You are correct about wetting the finger tip.  My solution has been to use the optional remote. I can easily change screens forward or backward with any type of glove. Keeps my hand on the handlebar instead of trying to change screens.

Totally depends on the gloves. Some work great. Some not so well. Some, not at all.
