All,
I'm thinking of getting an Edge 1030 for tacking my mountain biking. Currently I use a Montana and I like that I can create tracks in Basecamp and load them on my Montana and follow them while riding. Can I do this with the Edge 1030?
Thanks

You can do that. It can be done with the Edge connected to the computer or by saving a GPX file and transferring that. However a much better workflow is to create a course on the Garmin Connect website and transfer it wirelessly to the Edge with the Garmin Connect Mobile app on your phone. There are other route planning web apps as well. Basecamp is very old school. The latest Edge devices have integration with Trailforks which is also used quite a bit by mountain bikers. That integration varies. It is most advanced with the latest 530 and 830. The 1030 does not have the builtin Trailfork map but allows to transfer trails from the phone app using the Trailform CIQ app.
No prob. This review has a whole section on the MTB specific features of the Edge. Garmin has been developing that area with the last few releases. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/04/garmin-edge-830-cycling-gps-in-depth-review.html
Note once you use a track it get converted to a fit file and cannot be manipulate in BaseCamp. But I used my Montana on my bicycle before I got eh Edge 1030 so I am able to copy old tracks over.
