OS Maps from Mapyx Quo

Hi folks, I wanted a better map for when I'm using my Edge 1030 for route planning    The full OS 1:50,000 maps aren't cheap so I looked online and found Mapyx who sell the OS maps tile by tile (a tile is 40k x 40k and costs 89 pence !).   So I downloaded a few but I now realise I have no idea how to get these onto my Garmin,.   Any ideas ?    Or failing that, any ideas on how to improve on the default map ?

  • My suggestion is really to use the computer for route planning, either the Course Builder on Garmin Connect or another good site like RideWithGPS and then transfer the route to the Edge. This transfer can me wireless using the Garmin Connect Mobile app. Planning routes directly on the Edge is cumbersome at best. The online tools are way more powerful with multiple maps, satellite images, heat maps, etc.

As for maps if not using the Garmin map I suggest you get some OSM maps for free. It is really not worth it to invest in device maps. See http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl and details instructions here https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/08/how-to-install-free-maps-on-your-garmin-edge.html

  • I don't know where you live, I suggest also to look at openfietsmap.nl

There are many websites providing different free maps based on openstreetmap.

Most times you can download an .img file. Those .img files you can easily rename and copy to your edge 1030.

I live in the Netherlands and because I only need maps for Netherlands or Europe (during holidays) I use all the maps from openstreetmap.nl
