Issue with Software Update 9.0

Hi,

tried to install the new Software Update to my Edge 1030.

It‘s taking now more than 1 hour for a restart... anyone else facing this issue? Anything I can do?

  • Try powering it off and on again.

  • Mine installed in about <5min. Except, after installing it, it freezes up when starting up. Gets to the home screen and it starts to pair with my devices and lock GPS, then it just freezes. Ver 9.0 bricked my Garmin.

I've restarted it about 10 times, no change. I need to see if I can rollback to 8.0.

    Thanks for nothing Garmin!

  • Mine crashed my device just after reloading and I had to do a hard reset.  (Hold power button for 10 secs) It was slow rebooting but seems ok now.

  • Same problem for me, and same solution

  • I did a hard reset with the power button at least 15 times, of which maybe 3 times it booted successfully.

    • I ended up rolling back to 8.0 which wiped all my settings, profiles and sensors. Thankfully I backed up what could be backed up.
    • Then I UPGRADED back to 9.0, and it still continued to brick my 1030.
    • Then I ROLLED BACK to 8.0 AGAIN
    • Then did a device reset
    • Then upgraded back to 9.0 and finally, all seems right.

Hope the effort was worth all that hassle.

My biggest headaches with this EDGE 1030 is the inconsistent connection with my Android (Galaxy S8+) and the fact that the system battery gauge is almost always locked on 100% until after I do a power down and reboot. So annoying

  • I have the same issue. For me is solved taking out the external SD card before booting.

Two reboots without the SD card, then added the SD Card and it takes a while (15 min) to start with it and no issue from here on.

    Regards,

  • The connection (and Livetrack) seems to improve after un-pairing and re-pairing after every firmware upgrade, and several times after Garmin Connect app updates.  No idea why, but it's annoying.

On the 9.0 upgrade, I also had an issue with it not taking effect, and after a forced power off, it was then fine.  Also annoying as the previous beta for this upgrade - 8.11 did't have that issue.

  • I have the same connection issues with the S8. Have you any ideas on getting a constant connection?

  • Constant connection? No Clue... gets pretty frustrating with frequent connect/disconnect alerts during an activity

Improved connection? Somehow, if you can manage to link BOTH bluetooth connections between phone and 1030, it seems to improve stability. By both, I mean the 1030 shows up twice on my S8 under bluetooth devices. One has a icon that looks like a computer and the other is an icon that looks like a tablet/phone. By default, it connects to the 'computer' icon one. Not sure how or how to repeat it, but I was also able to link it via the 'tablet/phone' line and after that, the connection is better but still not constant.

  • Same issue.  Running latest version of Garmin Connect on my Pixel 2.

Seems to lock up as soon as the connection to Garmin Connect is established.  The unit is then completely non-responsive; only solution appears to be hard reset.
