Can't upload courses

I haven't been able to upload course files for the last week. I've successfully uploaded courses many times in the past. Is anybody else having this problem?

  • Upload courses FROM the 1030 or TO the 1030?

Are you referring to the "Copy to Connect" option in iOS for GPX files that is missing?

No, I'm trying to load a gpx file to the edge while it is connected to my Mac. Normally I do that by copying the file into the "new files" folder in the edge.

  • Where did the file come from?

It's not common but some sources create GPX files that the Edges can't convert.

  • Three common issues

    1. You reached the limit of 100 courses on the Edge. You then need to do some cleanup.

    2. You have two courses with names that are the same or similar. The edge only uses the first 12 or so characters in the course name. If two course names start with the same such characters and are different after the cutoff, they will overwrite each other. You need to make sure the course name is unique.

    3. The GPX has an error or in not compatible with the Edge. You should be able to test that easily using the Garmin Connect site. Go to courses, then select Import. It will allow to import the GPX into a proper garmin course, and then save it as a FIT file. If this process fails most likely the GPX is not good. BTW this is the workflow I usually use, and once it is in Connect it can be transferred to the Edge using your phone - no need to connect to the computer.

Worked great, thanks. The route was created by someone else using RideWithGPS. I've used that web service in the past without problem. Anyway, your suggestion worked.

The file was created by a co-worker using RideWithGPS.

  • That's odd. RWGPS is very heavily used by Garmin users.

    It should have worked.

Did you get the file or did you download it your self from RWGPS?

Note that you can use FIT or TCX too.

If you know the page, PM me with the link (I'll try it on a 1030).

I downloaded it. I tried several formats.

  • It loads fine on my 1030. Shows up in my saved courses and shows the route on the map.

What happens? Do they disappear from NewFiles and not show up in saved courses?
