no saved activity

Hello, I saved the training, showed me all the data, e.g. rest time, etc., but to my surprise I don't have any saved activity. I searched in folders on my computer and there is nothing too, is there another place where I can find a file with activity?

  • Your activity-fit file might be stored on your SD card - if you have one and you have set your EDGE to store it there. But even if so, you should find the activity in your history.

If you are on 1030 firmware v8.0 there might be another reason which I have experienced (but no-one else in that forum): Since v8.0 both of my Edges suffer of file-allocation-errors. That means: you save files (activity or setup files of IQ-datafields in my case) but the files were not stored properly. You can check if your Edge is suffering this problem by running the CHKDSK program - WIN-PC only. To do so connect your Edge to the PC, check the drive-name of your Edge (I take X: in following example), do not open that drive, stay on C:

Click at the WIN start button left-bottom of PC-screen. A command line opens.

Type CHKDSK /f X:\Garmin and press enter. A black (DOS) window will open and tell you the state of your device.

If you are prompted to save „lost chains“ say yes.

  • thank you for your help, unfortunately I use Mac

  • I had something like this happen in the depths of this past winter. I had ridden inside for so many days in a row, obviously with GPS off, that the date and time were way off. Way off. I found the ride I did by looking for a ride file with a weird date and time. In the Activities folder.

  • Thanks cycleanalyze: I alleged that the synchronisation of Garmin Express does not work, but it does, I just have a date discrepancy of 3 month on my Edge 1030 due to indoor cycling with GPS off and the fact that I switch off the device after my workouts.

I suggest a few improvements to Garmin:

    1. At least show the current date somewhere on the device display
      1. e.g. on the system overlay, when you swipe down.
      2. e.g. within the details of a ride within the 'Rides' history. All my last rides are just labelled as 'Today', although they are days appart.
    2. It would be really cool, if one could change the date and time of a ride, e.g. within the option menu of /History/Rides/<Your Ride>/ -> The burger button

With the help of gpsbabel I have taken a look into the fit-file written to the storage at /Garmin/Activities/* by converting it to a csv-file. It is a time series of events measuring the following every second: No,Latitude,Longitude,Temperature,Heartrate,Cadence,Power,Date,Time,Format,Filename
To fix this this would require to fix the date and time of every row in the CSV-File and convert it back into the fit format. gpsbabel does not allow to do that.

  • To be fair the main reason you'd want to see current date at the moment is to know if it's wrong, although I agree it would make sense to have it as an available data field, as it does seem a strange omission. It's possible to create a connect IQ field to do that but thats a bit over the top.

The time sync without GPS issue is fixed in the latest beta.

  • On a mac you can also check the disk using Disk Utility.
