Garmin 1030 front mount insert replacement doesn't exist. This should be easily fixable, but no, you google and purchase and then discover, no replacement insert does not exist.

Hi,  I use my Garmin 1030 all the time, here in Canada and abroad and really like it.  You are most certainly aware of this issue, but here it is expressed with surprise and frustration.  It must be easy to fix.  The Garmin extended front handlebar mount for the 1000 series is great.  As you know, if you fall, instead of breaking the attachment portion on the Garmin 1030 itself, the insert on the mount fails.  All good.  It looks replaceable, so you google and find a replacement.  But no, it is for the K-Edge series!  The screws are shorter and there is no insert nut to screw them into.  So, after breaking, searching, purchasing online, waiting, taking apart and trying, and then thinking is it me?, you discover, no it's you.  You have these things manufactured somewhere, so why not have double the number of freaking inserts made and have the insert supplied somewhere as well?  What is the matter with you?  I have now spent countless hours searching this in the disbelief that it is not possible to purchase the proper insert anywhere and now turn to you and say, please fix this.  Thank you.  Bye.

  • I am with you. Actually the whole out front mount is a simple injection moulded piece of plastic which is nickel and dime stuff. Charging almost 40 euro for it is a rip off. I changed to Kedge a long time ago. I have a 6 euro spare insert for it in my spare parts box.

  • Just get a new mount and move on.

Sure. $70 later that’s what I’ve done. The K-Mount has  replacement part for $5, so do you have an issue with me pointing out the absence of similar for Garmin mount?

Thanks. Yeah. Posting meant as word to others. It seems you need to replace it with a K-Edge to then be able to get the replacement part. Cheers.

  • You probably also could have ordered this part from Garmin. It is the insert you need to use the Power Pack but it works fine without it. It replaces the default insert that comes with the mount. I ordered a few of those since I use a PowerPack with several bikes but as I say you don't have to use a powerPack. And this mount locks your Edge in place with a lever, which has pros and cons but that's how it works.

Thank you very much for that info and link, much appreciated.  As part of the frustration indeed, the link leads to the part with a price of C$15.99 which is ok, BUT it does not have an "add to cart" function, which I take it to mean it is not available in Canada, but there is no indication of out of stock or anything at all, just no button to purchase.  In the description, it indicates it's for the outfront mount which has a hyperlink and when you go to that, it actually has an "add to cart" button and there you find the amount listed as US$39.99, so I can only conclude, after my roundabout futile exercise that I just can't get the part here.  I have looked pretty much everywhere and ended up purchasing the K-Edge (which matches the insert I purchased from the US, because that part as well wasn't available in Canada and I thought it was the same one as for the Garmin - which I discovered it isn't when I tried to install).  So, again, thank you very much, that is very helpful and shines a light on the issue - just not available in Canada, but at least now I know that that specific part will do the trick and I'll keep an eye out for purchasing possibilities.  Cheers.

Just to update - the US$39.99 for the out front mount itself had a link to the insert, for US$9.99, so I tried to order, but no delivery outside US.  Clearly a problem of supply and distribution to or within Canada.  Thanks to your reply however, this information may be of use to others in the same predicament and I'll keep at it over time to make sure I have some replacements.  Cheers.

  • I ordered through customer service/ support with an email. They sent me a link to pay online and once I did they shipped the part. I am in Canada and they shipped to my house.

Thanks, I've sent an email.  Much appreciated Martin.  I'll update as this unfolds, for others who may be interested.  Cheers.

  • Although not a completely satisfactory solution the garmin varia radar mount appears to use the same insert & is less than half the price of an out front
