There was previously a battery bug where it stayed at displaying 100%, maybe it's related. This was resolved by doing a hard power off (hold power button and choose "Power Off"), give that a go and see if it makes a difference. You won't lose any data....
You can also try a hard power down. With the unit on hold the power button down for 10+ seconds or until it powers off.
This might be a related issue: my Edge 1030 seems to charge okay (although it never seems to quite get to 100%, and even if it does, as soon as I unplug it from a USB port it immediately drops to 99%), but since the 8.0.0 update while it's charging, the battery charge icon, that lets you know the charge status, blinks for a few milliseconds every three seconds or so. It's not really even visible long enough for you to make out what it says. I assume this is unintentional, but some sort of bug in the update. I wonder if anyone else sees this behavior.

I have exactly the same problem (in addition to my 0% history)
when I put it to load the loading icon flashes
Try the hard reset described above. I had the same battery flashing issue and that seemed to fix it.
