I've been on a couple of rides since updating to firmware 8.0.0 and I seem to have lost turn by turn navigation. Now I only seem to get a few turn by turn alerts (on a 20 km ride today I only got one turn alert - this was using a gpx file that worked perfectly well before the update). Also the distance to the next turn is not displayed. For most of my ride today I just got a useless "Follow the course" message - not very helpful.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Update. I think the problem was due to the fact that my preferred route planner site, bikemap.net, has changed its route planner engine. bikemap.net's route planner was excellent before they updated, but now it's virtually unusable. I've tried plotaroute.com, which seems to be quite good - it allows you to download your planned routes as fit files to transfer to your Garmin. The rides I've planned with plotaroute.com do give turn by turn directions with firmware 8.0.0.
I've tested a gpx file today, which had worked perfectly well before the update, but now all I get is the track to follow on the map screen. I get no alerts when approaching a turn. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? I've built up quite a big library of gpx routes - I'll be very disappointed if I cant use them anymore.
I've not seen this, but check that TBT did not get disabled.
Go to saved courses then select the hamburger icon (bottom right) and check that Turn Guidance is enabled. Also check that your maps are enabled.
Are you using the Garmin supplied maps?
Note that the Edges require track files (a list of points that accurately traces the path you want to follow).
Unless the route planner isn't producing a track file, your problem isn't the route planner.
Other than being a track file, there is no magic in the file required to have turn guidance. Every route planner that I've seen produces track files that will work.
As was pointed out, check to make sure "turn guidance" hasn't been disabled.

The Garmins convert GPX and TCX files to FIT files.
Keep in mind that GPX and TCX files are text files. They are easy to look at (there's a good chance they'll make some sense to you!)
There isn't any special magic in the files.
Keep in mind that the track has to follow roads that are on the installed map (it doesn't have to be exact but closer is better).
If you see the track (and it follows the roads), it should work.
Thanks for your help everyone. I've just ridden a route using a fit file generated on plotaroute.com and I've got TBT functionality back. Still disappointed that my gpx files generated on bikemap.net do not work on the Edge 1030 any more since the firmware update. It means I've got to start from scratch and plan all those routes again
Gpx should still work (if it's the proper type of gpx file).
It's not likely the update broke it.
Something else might be going on.
You should see a list of turns when pressing the text at the top of the map with turn guidance enabled.
Provide the gpx file that came from that site that doesn't work.

Thanks for getting back. I honestly don't understand why those gpx file that I created on bikemap.com do not work anymore. I've got hundreds of them. I used to have a Bryton Rider 60 before I upgraded to a Garmin 1030 and they worked on that and, until I updated to firmware 8.0.0, they also worked on the Garmin 1030.
