Upcoming Road Name

I've just upgraded to an Edge 1030 from the Edge 1000.

I've used Garmins for many years.

On the 1000 while riding NOT navigating using an OS microSD card I used to get the name of the next road showing on the top of the map screen. While riding using the 1030 with Garmin Europe cycle maps I just get riding EAST, WEST or whatever cardinal direction I'm cycling.

Have I missed a setting or is this normal please?

  • The option is called something like "Guide Text". If you have TBT enabled the text at the top of the map should indicate the turns. If you did not enable TBT and follow a course, then you get the magenta line but no guidance. So make sure you have TBT enabled. When you start riding  a course if it says Calculating xx% and it take a little while to compute, then you have TBT enabled. If you do not have this message then TBT is off. That Calculation process is the thing that computes the turn messages by matching the course line with the map database  and it places them on the course.

  • I think the question here and I may be wrong, if not navigating, how to show the next street instead of what street you are on. I recall it used to do this awhile back. The guide text option does not apply to this situation.
