I only do mountainbiking and I often ride with navigation - but without turn-by-turn guidance. So I have the advantage of climb pro and all that stuff but have not to wait for calculation.

There's likely going to be some waiting for the group to be ready to head off, which would mean there should be no need to "waif for the calculation". Just start it earlier.

If you are driving to the ride, do the calculation before doing other set up.

You can also start riding before the calculation is complete (of course, you won't have turn guidance until it's done).

If it's a regular ride, you might not need the guidance for the first mile.

None of those are a solution that works as well as removing the wait time.

Although not a complete solution. I use 3rd party OSM maps instead of the built-in Garmin maps & a 200Km ride will calculate in less than a minute

They work better because they can be done right now and they work for cases where you won't have the cached result.

It's likely that you will never see the caching.

A little bit of planning/forethought eliminates most of the occurrences of waiting.

And, it's likely most people are going to have to recalculate anyway. I suspect that, across all users, the caching would be useful rarely.
