Can the bontrager 1030 be rest to become a standard 1030

No is the short answer.

They are the same .  Ah the Bontrager just has a few apps already installed.  You can uninstall them.  I think I used the app on my iPhone or the Garmin Express on my PC.  Not sure.  The nice thing my Trek dealers that was running 20% off all Bontrager stuff will discount the 1030.  $120 off.  

They cannot become a 1030 at all.  I had a huge issue as the bontrager has a light control app that hasnt been updated in a year. I also bought a varia radar. The bontrager could not control the radar at all as the app was to old.  I deleted the app thinking it woud then have the default garmin light control page. Turns out the bontrager can only control lights through its app that doesnt work making my varia almost useless. 

Dealt with garmin on this for a couple months where they replaced the varia and eventually replaced the bontrager for a standard 1030.  Still had massive problem with the varia and my samsung android phone....  But over the last few updates the phone and the varia have become rock solid.....  And the built in garmin controls for the varia look awesome. 

Super pleased with Garmin fixing ALMOST all my issues.  I also bought a 945 and garmin seems to be making them play much nicer as well.  Now I just need amazon music in Canada or I cancel my amazon prime.
