Any one knows if it it's possible to INCREASE the font size of the text messages that appear as notifications below at the screen?

These notifications appear mostly mid-ride, Some of us (aka "older athletes")  we may be able to see perfectly at long distances but struggle to read a small text at close range. It could be a lap summary or new performance level attained, or an incoming phone call or a low battery warming for a connected light. The text font is quite small for some of us, it would require putting on reading glasses from the jersey pockets to read the notifications (who's calling???) certainly NOT a safe way to ride. And the screen size of the 1030 gives ample room to support a larger optional font size. Maybe there is a way, user-friendly or not, to specify a larger font at setup.

  • I would definitely second this!

  • +2

The reason I bought the 1030 over any other Garmin was for the screen/font size. Having these 'features' that don't take advantage of the screen size is pretty meaningless to me.

  • Agree 100%...and for things like notifications, there is no reason why it could not use the whole screen, and not just the bottom third.  Hell...I even struggle to see if the "connected to bluetooth" icon is there (which 8/10 times it is not, on the 1030!!)

Alas, I suspect Garmin are not reading this forum....and a DCR would need to be raised through the support route

  • Deze en andere problemen lijken opgelost in de 7.85 firmware update. Dit is nu nog een béta, maar werkt feilloos op 1030.: BT-koppelingen werken direct, toevoeging van ClimPro en andere software uitbreidingen.

  • I think avoiding having riders read long messages is sound from safety point of view. You get a glimpse  of what the message is about and if you want to read more just stop and use your phone. The edge is not a wise device to message with.

  • For safety reasons I disabled all notifications. I can't understand why people want that on the edge 1030 as you have to have your phone with you anyway. What is so important during a ride that needs your immediate attention? It puzzles me.

  • I feel the same way

  • Today I paid more attention to the notifications with FW 7.85 since they have been redesigned. It is pretty much what you are asking for in the end. When a notification pops-up is small at the bottom of the screen as before, but it has two buttons, an X and a ...  If you do the X you clear it, but if you do the ... the message pop-up full screen with a large font. So some people should be happy about that. Now ride safely, reading messages while riding is not the wisest thing to do. One pothole or one crack and you may regret it for the rest of your life. Cheers.

  • You still have to tap on the .... and take youd hand of the handlebar. I have Di2 and have the ability to move through the data screens by clicking on a switch on my shifter instead of a swipe. It would be nice if I were able to program one of the switches to more action that need to click on the screen: zoom in on the map or stop a Strava segment for instance would make my ride even safer.

  • I like it. It's a fairly good way for other riders in the group to communicate issues. I don't get many texts.

"I can't understand why people want that on the edge 1030 as you have to have your phone with you anyway."

But it's obvious. It avoids the need to stop and look at the phone.
