TBT delay

Another TBT issue.

Found this 1st on a recently updated 1000. Thinking “old unit, new OS,”, decided to get a 1030. Same issues of the TBT guidance is really slow to update. If I’m in a data screen, TBT pops up and indicates an upcoming turn. All good. After I complete the turn it’s typically taking upwards of 40-45 seconds to revert to the data screen. If I watch this on the Nav/Map screen, I can see the blue icon for my position s correct and follows me thru the turn and onto the new road. The TBT does not update. Oddly that n some occasions and after either a stop of the navigation, or if I’m well or past half of the course, the TBT updates in about 10 seconds. Other times stopping/starting the Course has no effect and the TBT is useless.

  • Issue is the Route Recalculation setting which wants to be OFF for navigating.  Seems Recalculating only functions when using the device to create a route to a destination - I.E. while NOT navigating and you search for a Starbucks or something and have the device select a route.  I set mine to Off and the TBT on the device works as it should.

  • Well belay that, had the same TBT delay this afternoon.  Odd as it's almost exactly a 43 second delay on every turn.  Seems like a setting almost

  • I had a problem with extreme delay for a while on 1030. In my case turns out it was because I had added maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ to my Edge in addition to the Garmin supplied ones. I had disabled these custom maps from the Maps interface on the Edge, just had them there in case I wanted to see them, but apparently, even disabled, they affected navigation and made it extremely slow to return to previous screen after completing an intersection. Eventually I went and deleted the custom maps (I could also have changed the .IMG file extension to something else) and navigation went back to being really quick to complete after finishing an intersection.

  • I tried using an SD card with Garmin Topo maps on it.  The the unit would than take 2+ minutes to boot.  I removed the card and it was a 25 second boot.  The TBT issue never resolved itself, I was only using the stock internal maps.  Then the unit did a factory reset this AM as I was about to start a remote ride that desired navigation.  I did the ride from my own memory and boxed and returned device to vendor when I got home.  The most unreliable Garmin device I've ever used.
