Edge 1000 - running out of free space.

current situation is  Edge 1000

Used space - 6.85GB

Free space - 396MB

i cannot locate the big files that are using the disc space.  Can anyone advise what may be causing the use of disc space (currently have an expansion card where ride info is stored.

The Edge 1000 is behaving erratically and it may be the disc space issue is contributing to the problem.

any help appreciated.

  • I think I have found the problem.

3 image files using up over 6gb  - I moved them to a folder created on the desktop, freeing up the space on the Garmin, which on the first trial worked as it should.

  • These are your map files and they are indeed very large. However this space issue should not contribute to slowness

  • You have likely just removed the map files as they have a ".img" file extension.

would you be prepared in sharing a screenshot from your folder structure and file info

    happy & safe sporting

  • Yes, I moved 3 image files to a folder on my desktop, how many IMG files should there be? Should I move any back to the Garmin?

  • Hi,

the 3 image files I moved from my Garmin to a folder on my laptop desktop are corrupted,

I get the message “The disc image file is corrupted”

on the Garmin the are still two image files but very small compared to the ones I moved to the laptop.

i had a ride yesterday afternoon and the map of the ride was exactly as riddlen, on the Garmin and strava and followed on live track.

Prior to moving the corrupted very large files - I would have trouble using livetrack, a ride I had of 40 miles the distance reporting stooped for a while and then restarted, my last ride came up as  an indoor ride with no segments, when in fact it was a regular 35mile ride with many segment.

Could it be that moving the corrupted image files has corrected the problem,

    Thank you,

    ernie

  • Your desktop is likely expecting a file with an img extension to be a disk image not a map so is reporting it as corrupted. Not sure if you’re on a mac or windows but if on windows you could use something like tree size to see what’s using the space on your edge.
