update 1030 with 830/530 information ? joke ? lies?

The edge 830/530 has been released for a few months now. Garmin has announced that an update will be done on the 1030 to "recover" the same data (climbpro for example).

but we never see anything coming ... is this a joke ?? the high-end model of the brand does not have the data of the lower models ??
Do you expect the output of a 1040 edge for that ??

I have :
garmin scale
fenix 5x +
edge 1030
varia
vector 3

I think I am a "serious" customer but the commercial policy will eventually make me want to go elsewhere.
  • I believe more people are frustrated because of the same. And you're not the only one who is considering switch...

  • Reading on DC Rainmaker's site today, apparently Garmin say that the major firmware upgrade is a couple of weeks away.

    www.dcrainmaker.com/.../week-in-review-august-11th-2019.html

  • If you look at the 830 release notes they are still polishing the finer details and fixing bugs around these features. I'd rather wait for this to be stable before it gets introduced to the 1030. Also please keep in mind that the 1030 - while being the flagship- is still two year old hardware, that is ages, so I assume  that porting the features might be troublesome.

Tbh - on one side people want the newest features immediatly but then cry out if things are not stable. Personally I'd rather have less features rock solid than having all the features but buggy.

  • Why all this requests for new functionality? You paid for the 1030 with the functionality it had at that time. Garmin never promised to add new functionality to keep the 1030 on par with newer lower end models. The 530 and 830 are new models, you cannot expect the 1030 to have the same functionality. It all depends on the available processing power, hardware specs etc. Some new features are very depending on the hardware. If, and again, IF Garmin adds (parts of) this new functionality to the current 1030, that would be nice. But you can't demand that from them. Even if they don't update the 1030, I won't care and I won't blame them. I accept the 1030 as it is today. it works fine and great. Maybe they'll introduce a new 1050 next year or so, with even more functionality than the current 530 and 830. So just wait and see.

  • I think the problem is that Garmin created these expectations when the 530/830 was launched, saying that most of the new features would be available in a firmware update to the 1030 due in 'the coming months'. It's been almost 4 months since this news with little in the way of a timeline so it makes sense to me that people would be frustrated.

I'd also side with Fjewl though. If the delayed firmware update is a result of fixing bugs and a more stable experience then I'm happy to wait a bit longer,

  • Be patient. Your 1030 does nothing less now than before 830 and 530 were released. They will finish working out the issues on those two devices and then release something more robust on the larger user base of the 1030. They are doing things the right way.

  • As far as I know, I never saw any official statement from Garmin on this matter. The only source was DC Rainmaker. So we just have to wait and see what Garmin will offer us.

  • I am curious how Edge 1030 hardware will handle new functionalities , is clear that 830 is faster than 1030

  • Well, it's not like those new things are super-demanding on the hardware. Acclimatization functions are not real-time anyway and Climb Pro should be allright, it's hardly more challenging to implement than Strava live segment display. Was there anything else that could, in theory, push 1030 to its limits? I don't think so.

  • Yes my garmin 1030 does less now than before : true up doesn't work anymore with my new 945 ! and I am not the only one considering all the posts about it on the 945 forum ! I don't mind garmin not adding features but at least keeping compatibility !

fom now I record the rides on both the 1030 and 945 and discard it on the edge at the end, like when true up didn't exist yet ! this is not normal
