AccuWeather MinuteCast Dead. AS commented on widely in App feedback.

(Sorry but no Edge 1000 forum to post in!)

The App always says: Please connect your phone and open the Connect Mobile App
This hasn't been working on Edge 1000 and others for months :-(  . I contacted AccuWeather who's Rhonda Seaton, Director, Marketing Communications said:

The application you are using was developed by Garmin, with AccuWeather supplying the weather data. Because of this, AccuWeather does not support the application itself. The manufacturer, in this case, Garmin, is responsible for databasing, displaying, and formatting this data and is best to resolve your concerns. However, we will be reaching out to Garmin as our partner to look into and address these issues.

I then contacted Garmin who, after getting me to jump through many hoops and provide lots of data from my Edge and iPhone said the opposite! See below:

Hi Tim, I am sorry to say that Garmin dose not support 3rd party apps. The case that was raised on our end was closed for this reason. If there is a problem on gamins side of the app then the 3rd party company would need to contact our Connect IQ support team. Kind regards, Liam

So someone somewhere is misguided! In the mean time this once great App still doesn't work :-( :-(
Can anyone categorically corroborate any of the above - particularly regarding App ownership/responsibility?
Subsequent messages sent by me  AccuWeather have not received replies :-( .

  • I looked at Connect IQ and the Accuweather app does not appear to be from Garmin. Where does the 1030 get it's weather from when using the default weather forecast? It seems to work fairly well but not much information shown.

  • I'm guessing that the person from Accuweather has no clue about software development and who develops what.  The "Marketing Communications" part of her title should have been a immediate red flag.

If you go to the privacy policy in the Connect IQ app, it sends you to an accuweather.com page. If it were a Garmin app, then it would take you to a garmin.com page.

Plus, if you send developer feedback, it goes to them and not Garmin.

The Accuweather apps for Garmin devices are developed in-house at Garmin.

If it is saying you aren't connected to a phone try disconnecting and reconnecting and rebooting both devices. As for getting GPS location, at the current time, in order to use the app you have to be outside or in some way capable of getting new GPS data.
