I´m thinking about buying an edge 1030, but the processor of the current one is still quite slow. So I wonder if anyone knows when there will be an upgraded 1030 – like the 830/20.

I do not know about battery life but all other stuffs are better on 830 except one, GPS signal.
For mountain biking head unit it work terrible in the forest. Main reason i returned one and i got Edge 1030…
edge 1030 plus
I don't know what additional features could be offered in a new model other than a faster processor. I don't think I use even half of the 1030"s features. But, there's always someone who wants the latest…
...and move the mount lower so it works on all mounts for smaller devices
The Edge battery is much bigger so their little charging tech which produce very little power, can refill a tiny watch battery but I doubt would do much on the Edge. They would need to rework that tech quite a bit if it is to be useful.
The Edge has a field called "Grade" which does exactly what you want. It does it based on the Altimeter data, not the course data. You don't even need a course to be loaded. So it is pretty much a real time grade of the terrain you ride. Grade=dAltitude/dDistance as a %
Take your point but the screen on the 1030 has 3.5x the area and a larger bezel so more room for solar cells and it should be in the sunlight more than a watch. From what I can make out the 6X has a 500mAH battery and the 1030 a 1900mAH so the ratio isn't that far off. What does speak against it is the cost, the 6X Solar is a £200 premium over the non-solar, and the power consumption as the 1030 lasts a day and the 6x 3 weeks so the Edge must be burning a lot more power.
I agree with you. Garmin just need to speedup the unit and fix the darn bugs that have been around for years. Don't need new features, need a polished product. Hopefully the 1030plus delivers that.
