Anybody know how to delete old maps from Garmin Edge 1000? Without screwing up the device or bricking it of course.

I have:

Garmin DEM Map EU 2017,20
Garmin Cycle Map EU, North East, 2019.10
Garmin Geocode Map EU 2019.10
Garmin Cycle Map EU, South West, 2019.10
all activated

plus
INTL Standard Basemap, NR
deactivated

I heard that the more maps there are on the device the slower it will be.

Sooner or later a new map will come and then slowly even a 32Gb SD-card will be full.

  • You have no old maps.

The DEM map has elevation data (this doesn't change very often).

The Geocode map has locations (address lookup).

The two Cycle maps are for two separate parts of Europe.

When Garmin updates the installed maps, it overwrites the prior version.

The Basemap is a world map that doesn't have a lot of detail. It's OK to have it disabled but it makes screen updates faster at low zoom levels. It also provides some context if you ever scroll the map to a place that isn't covered by a detailed map.
