Edge 1000 (and 1030) Tap to go Back insanity:

Does anyone know how to get rid of the automatic zoom and tap to go back message that pops up at and after every turn on a route?  My hangs there for up to 30 seconds after I've made my turn and I keep having to tap the screen to get rid of it faster.  Totally annoying.

Yes, I've always found this quite a pain, particularly when navigating through old European towns and villages, where successive turns can come every few seconds. And I haven't found out how to change the amount of time that this message hangs around before disappearing without needing a tap every time...

  • The remote control works very well in this situation.

My handlebars are too clogged already - GPS, phone, bell, handlebar bag mount...

  • If you have your GPS why have the phone as well ? Enjoy the ride and ditch the phone in your pocket. The Edge can give you the notifications anyway, then you can stop if you need to take actions. Beside having so many distractions on the bars is not the safest thing to do. A half frame bag is a good replacement for your handlebar bag and provides much better bike handling. The bell however that can be cool to keep {:-)

Regarding the automatic zoom, this is a feature that can be disabled. Check in the Activity Profile settings under navigation/map, there is a toggle to turn it off.

  •  I agree its annoying and Garmin made it very unfriendly with no option to adjust setting (as always) - I am ok with message pops up the screen, but why, when I already tapped the screen, get this message again and again and again until I pass the turn. When I tapped the screen, its obvious, that I am aware of the turn and want to come back to my previous screen (doing interval and need to see watts ...), so why the hell do i get this message again and again, there is no logic in it. It could be easily fixed up by adding condition - "IF screen tapped THAT do not pop up again". But I have no hope that Garmin will ever do anything about it.
