Autopause problem?

My last few rides have had a problem. When starting a course, the display constantly flickers between play and pause. My 1030 only starts recording when I press the start button, but then doesn’t pause when I stop moving.

Only started happening a couple of weeks ago, after latest update and with the previous one. I was using a Wahoo Blue Speed/cadence sensor. Replaced with Garmin Speed and Cadence sensors, still the same problem.

I’m guessing a full reset is my next step. Has anyone else had this problem?

  • It‘s normal that the device starts to record your ride only after pressing start.

Go to Profile - Autofunctions - Autopause and set it to „When stopped“

(starting a course does not start recording your ride and with the „flickering start-pause sign“ your Edge prompts you to press start!)

  • I have just started getting this issue too (also after the update) - did you fix it with a reset?

  • You need to be more specific about the problem you have:
    - is it about the autopause?
    - is it about the start/pause sign that pops up again and again?
    - is it about recording activities in general?

  • I experience a similar problem with my new 1030 (tastest firmware) together with a Bontrager DuoTrap Speed/TF sensor.

When riding way above my Custom auto pause threshold (7km/h) it does auto pause for a few seconds and goes back to play. The Edge also seems to have problems with the connection to the Bontrager sensor in ANT+ mode, although it has a new battery.

Autopause works fine if I'm in GPS only mode.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting? Is this a common problem/behaviour and already fixed with a FW-Version?

    Thank you.

  • I'm aware of a few riders with the Bontrager sensor who have had to switch over to the Garmin speed and cadence sensors. The Bontrager sensor had problems staying connected.

  • Just for info: the Bontrager sensor worked fine for years together with my old 810.

Is there a similar experience together with Bontrager ION RT headlights?

  • Have you tried to remove speed/cadence sensor  for time being? Does it autostop without sensor?

  • Mine started doing this.  Were you able to find a solution?

  • Mine started doing the same thing.  Would go into Pause mode.  Then start, then back into pause mode.  I noticed that there was no speed or cadence.  Did you figure out a solution?

  • Start not using the sensor as a test. A speed sensor is not useful anyway. Without the sensor the Edge will use GPS based info to do the auto pause. It will not rely on a sensor that may be disconnecting or misbehaving. If that solve it you have a free solution, simply not use the speed sensor. Cadence sensor is useful info, speed sensor is redundant. You do not need one when riding outdoors on the road. Speed sensors are only useful if 1) doing trainer rides on dumb trainer 2) mountain biking when tree cover and very low speed cause GPS tracking issues and 3) you ride long tunnels regularly. I have a speed sensor on my MTB, but none on road and gravel bikes. Cheers.
