Hello,

I bought a Garmin Edge 1030 in a Trek store yesterday (not the Bontrager version though).

I can't see loaded map.. I live in Frannce and the European map seems to have been correcty installed through Garmin Express. I took about 2 hours..

Can someone help me solve this issue? Don't hesitate to ask me further information if required.

Many thanks !!

  • Here are two things to check:

First, do you have the map enabled?  You can check from each profile | Navigation | Map | Map information and look for the map name

Second, I don't have the Europe map, but I believe that the last update may have split it into two parts, maybe one for NE Europe and one for SW Europe. Check to see if you downloaded the geographical region that doesn't include France.

    Hello Mike,

Thanks you for your answer. In fact, I've just realised that the map was currently loaded, but the GPS coordinates and date / hour are completely wrong.. It seems that I can temporarily change the coordinates via Navigation / Search / Coordinates (POI Categories), but the new coordinates don't seem to be memorised for further rides. Is it possible to adjust and keep them forever ?

Still investigating for date and time, but that's less important..

    Thanks again!

  • Have you taken it outside and let it find GPS?  That should fix both issues.

Indeed, not.. I'm going to drive a few km with my car and see. I'm not so optimistic because, I'm in the highest flat of the building.

  • Driving around may confuse things.  It can take as long as 30 minutes to initially find satellites when sitting still the first time you use it.

    Hello,

I managed to get signals yesterday when driving for a few miles (?) I went cycling today for a few hours and it perfectly worked.

Just a question, I configure the GPS with GLONASS. Wouldn't it better to use GALILEO instead? (I cycle around Toulouse where AIRBUS is based).

    See you!

  • Hello, I have exactly the same issue than you. I have my gps since yesterday, sabed in Lyon but he doesn't locate me in the right place. the card was the one from the US and I cannot follow a track because he doesn't find me. same thing I don't have the right time then it is like I am in the US. how have you solved it?

  • Must go outside with the watch and let it find satellites. First time this can take 10 or 15 minutes. Once it get a first fix it will be much faster after but the first one is slow. Also make you do all your updates via USB before you use the watch, this will update the FW, maps and other files. Lastly make sure you bought the watch for the region you live it (Europe). If you bought a watch that was to be sold elsewhere, it is the maps for that region that are preloaded. Sometimes happen if you purchase online from abroad...

  • You bought a US device, it comes with north america maps. You will have to install Europe maps from the computer via USB, they are not included. Also you must setup the watch with your account and do a first sync. Time will get set when it gets a first GPS fix, leave the watch outside while it seeks stelltes (it should say Acquiring GPS or something like that, and give it time, lots of time, I mean 15min at least. In short Garmin use tricks so when you use the device regularly the GPS fix is quick but out of the box these tricks are not working so the device must get them the hard and long way, so give it time.

  • Thanks a lot. It was super useful. It took 2h to get it but at the end it works well and indeed it was much faster the day after. Thanks again. Much appreciated!
