.fit file that won't sync

I completed an indoor ride a few days back, and at the end I clicked Save, and was looking at the summary when the device simply turned off.  I rebooted it, and manually ran a sync, but the ride won't show up in Garmin connect.  I installed the desktop app, and I get an error re. the fit file.  This is frustrating because my training load is correct on the Edge 1030 but not on my Fenix 5, and my 7 day data is off due to the ride missing.

I tried manually uploading to connect but it errors out.

I found a website that fixes fit files, by removing, power, etc. so I ran the "corrupt" file through that changing the device from Edge 1030 to Edge 1000, because I don't actually want to strip anything, just fix the issue evidently near the end.  This worked, and I could upload to Strava, where my 01:00:02 min ride shows up like 00:58:36 or thereabouts.  So I exported from Strava and tried to import into Connect and it fails, as does the "fixed" file that Strava accepted.

Can anyone help me?  I can only assume there's a bit missing that needs cleaning, because I did see a dropout during the ride.  I've been using the Edge for about 6 weeks and have not experienced any other dropouts or failures.  All but one of my rides are indoor (recovering from a crash on that one outdoor ride!) but I'm a triathlete, so make heavy use of the training load stuff because I also run and swim, and use the Fenix to capture this stuff.

Any advice gratefully received.
