Bluetooth issues with iOS 11

We are continuing to work with Apple regarding Bluetooth connection issues with our devices. We have released Garmin Connect Mobile version 4.1.5 that includes improvements for iOS connectivity. Please continue to post any feedback in this thread.

TK76911S please reach out to our support team. We will help you get this paired up and sorted out.

How about Garmin reach out to us and just fix it. I too am sick of needing to do the continual remove device, add device, re-pair etc etc.

My New Edge 1030 Unit was working fine with a long ride on 6/20 - got the turn by turns vial Connect Mobile into my headset. Then on June 26th - no audio.. After the ride it told me my phone was not fully set up and walked me through the BT_Edge Bluetooth connection and then it uploaded the ride just fine. Next time I went to use it it would cycle on and off. I was finally able to get it to stay on. Tech support walked me though deleting all connections and reconnecting only to return of the cycle on and off. They decided there was a problem with the EDGE unit and sent me a new bundle. Success.. Linked up, rode and got all the audio.. Got home turned New unit off and Guess What! Same thing..

Current Status - Instructed to not connect via Bluetooth and just use the unit.. Uploads are happening via wifi so I am good with that for now but one of the reasons I bought this whole package was the turn by turn via the phone to my headset.

I am thinking that since the Connect Mobile App was upgraded between my last successful ride and when the problems started, it is most likely the APP. The other possibility they think might be a problem is a file on the unit that is corrupt. - Two units the same thing?

Garmin support was very helpful with this frustrating development.

Oh if this is happening to anyone else, you need to shut off your Bluetooth on your phone to stop the edge unit from cycling off.. Once I did this then I was able to get into the unit, connect to the computer and download the data for them. I did not get any sync warnings other folks have mentioned.
  • I can't pair my iPhone 8 with the Edge 1030. I only have one bluetooth connection with the unit. Any guides or something to go through a pairing process? When attempting, the Edge 1030 is connected via bluetooth, but doesn't come up in the 'choose an accessory' menu.

I have the same issue. I cant connect with Garmin Express. I can connect with iPhone bluetooth settings, but I cant connect in Garmin Connect Mobile app. I am running iOS beta 12.0 16A5345f) and Garmin Edge 1030 beta version 5.27. I did install the Garmin beta since I did hope it would work better...
  • I am running the latest iOS 12 beta and Edge 5.0. I had connections issues this morning so I removed the Edge from iPhone and iPhone from Edge. Now I can't connect them at all, no Edge 1030 visible on my iPhone when I try pairing from the Garmin Connect App.
  • It seems Bluetooth is a bit broken on latest beta of iOS 12. Edge 1030 is seen by other devices running iOS 11.
  • An update on this. I reset network settings on my iPhone X running iOS 12B7 and now I can see the Edge 1030, however I get the classic problem of only connecting the BT_Edge 1030 part and not the BL_Edge 1030 part so I get no notifications etc and I can't manage apps.
I have a brand new Edge 1000 which I intended to sell (exchange unit from Garmin) and that works perfectly well to pair with my iPhone.
What is going on? Is the Edge 1030 flawed or is it my device?

  • Another update.
I tried one more with the Edge 1030. I removed pairing from phone and GPS, this time I set it up as a brand new device and not "Registered on garmin connect", Voila, now it works.

    Is that the ultimate solution??

Ref Bluetooth 'lack of connectivity', it's becoming very annoying now and frankly getting fed up with un pair, pair, un pair, pair procedures. Something has happened in a previous software because earlier this year I could complete a ride, stop/save/tick etc and instantly it was on Garmin Connect and subsequently Strava. No longer is this the case. Now I have found the only way to get it to 'upload' is stop/save/tick, and then power off the Edge 1030. Then turn it on again and it has synched. Really? Is this what I have to do every time? It's a bit pants really...

Same issue here suddenly. Have an edge 820 which used to connect fine with Garmin connect. Suddenly About 1,5 weeks ago it stopped syncing with the connect app. Have tried everything, unpairing, pairing, removing the device from the connect app and reconnecting, nothing works.
devices connect over Bluetooth with my Phoenix (iPhone SE), however connect app can’t find my device.
