We are continuing to work with Apple regarding Bluetooth connection issues with our devices. We have released Garmin Connect Mobile version 4.1.5 that includes improvements for iOS connectivity. Please continue to post any feedback in this thread.
If i open the GC app on my Iphone 7 the 1030 bleeps and says phone connected. The bluetooth symbol on the 1030 is displayed, If i swipe up and close GC on my phone the 1030 bleeps to say phone disconnected and the bluetooth symbol goes out on the 1030. Therefore my 1030 will not auto upload a ride through my phone or work the crash detection feature unless i have already opened GC and left it running in the background.
Are you kidding? If you kill, ie swipe up Garmin Connect, on you iPhone 7 you won't have any Garmin functions ie Livetrack, weather etc avialable. That is by design. Just launch Garmin Connect and let it connect to your Edge and then press home button on your iPhone or just lock it using the side button. Normally there is no need to kill apps at all on iOS if the apps are well behaved. All we can say you are experiencing the expected behaviour.
On my Previous 2 units (edge1000 and edge 820) i did not have to open GC to see the Bluetooth symbol pop up on the garmin unit to prove it was connected to my phone! I dont use livetrack or hardly ever use the navigation. I just like the bigger screen and data field options for my cycling but do use the crash protection feature. This doesnt connect and work as my previous units.
1st of all its not a ball buster but it used to connect and work on previous units as stated. Now i have to leave it open 'just in case' so the incident protection works. Any apps open in the background drain phone battery power. I would like the 1030 to at least be as stable as previous units which it isn't. If i don't mention this as well as others in the 'unpaid beta tester camp' who will bother trying to fix it at Garmin?
andyrno: You just have to accept you are doing it wrong. No meaning of complaining about features works as intended. I suggest you contact Apple if you dont like how killed apps no longer can run in the background.
All i can say is on my previous 820/1000 units i would end my ride and within 30 seconds it would of auto uploaded my ride via my phone and i don't have WiFi turned on or the GC app open so it did some how! Now i have to open the app before ending/saving the ride for it to upload ok and sometimes only a pc cable will do.
