Bluetooth issues with iOS 11

We are continuing to work with Apple regarding Bluetooth connection issues with our devices. We have released Garmin Connect Mobile version 4.1.5 that includes improvements for iOS connectivity. Please continue to post any feedback in this thread.
  • I tried a controlled test this morning indoors on my trainer. I turned off the wifi connection to as to just use the bluetooth. When the ride was finished, I clicked through to the home screen on the 1030. The iPhone X was no further than 600 mm from the 1030 at all times. Garmin Connect was not turned on. The ride just completed was not uploaded as it would have with the 1000.

I loaded the Garmin Connect on the phone and went off to do other things and 1030 eventually went into sleep mode. After finishes dismantling the indoor setup, I went to the phone to see that the 1030 and Garmin Connect did not sync. Even if I turn on the 1030 from sleep mode and see that the phone is "connected", it does not sync. Bluetooth shows Edge 1030 connected. Still not sync. Even clicking on the sync button, still no sync. Send me a text message, I would see it on the 1030, so I know the Bluetooth connection between the phone and 1030 is working and that was when Garmin Connect was not loaded in the foreground.

One question I do have is why don't you have versions of the apps (either iPhone or 1030) which are instrumented to log certain features? Your developers are guessing as to the problems because they cannot test against on hand reproducible cases. However, the logs may allow for better insight into what is OR is not happening. As people has posted, other versions of your products ARE working with the Garmin Connect, so the reasonable question that has to be asked development wise is: what is different between the code base of the two products? this is development 101 and trouble shooting 101. This isn't something new in which there is no previous observations or working code or product.

I perform indoor test this morning WIFI on along with bluetooth.
Looking at the sync reports I have a first exchange with a fit type 44 at 9:06 size of the file is 248 bytes.
Rode 1hour and 4 minutes and end the ride.
Second échange in the sync report with fit-Type 4 at 10:21 size of fiel is 55546 bytes.
Worked fine for me. Numerus handshake without data not reported here.

I was shocked this morning that my 1030 started up and displayed a Bluetooth connection symbol without me first opening GC on my Iphone!. I did a indoor spin session and ended my ride and it uploaded it! (I do not have my wifi enabled). So that's great but still often random.

GC version 4.1.4.2, Fenix 5x, iOS 11.2.1. I frequently get the app message “bluetooth is turned off” and cannot sync, even though bluetooth is on and shows connected on the iPhone. Sometimes I need to cycle bluetooth off and on many times and eventually it works.
  • Unfortunately, it didnt work with me. GC4.1.5.1 + latest IOS 11.2.1. Did a ride this morning, afterwards didnt upload via bluetooth (although all the correct signs were green). Didnt upload via wifi, either at home or through hotspot on the iphone. Ended up uploading it manually, didnt feel good, paying top euro and then having this many small bugs. Off the rides in december this year, only saw auto upload work only for a few times, maybe 2 out of 10 rides.

    Both on 3.60 and 3.70
  • BT upload seems to have stopped working on my Edge 810 as well! That’s with an iPhone X.

Glad I returned my Edge 1030 weeks ago. Poor old Garmin management seem to have lost the plot with this one... They are probably really glad how many of their customers are happy to be beta testers. I’m not this time. Wondering if I’ll ever need to ‘upgrade’ a fairly reliable 810 to something as unreliable as the current 1030?
  • Last ride.... no livetrack started although the phone was connected (or it seemed so). Livetrack started only when I opened GCM on the phone, then I received the GCM livetrack email and strava beacon notification.
Sucks, as most of this unreliable device

LiveTrack needs GCM to be started (http://www8.garmin.com/livetrack/). The bluetooth icon that you can see on your watch / GPS just shows the fact that it's connected via BT, but that doesn't really mean that GCM is also started.

It's like Garmin 1000 when it released.... but slightly different. It took ~10 Edge1000 firmware updates before the bluetooth LE would stay connected, now with the 1030 the bluetooth LE stays connected ok, but not the regular connection (required for downloading). Device won't sync properly. It does one of the following: says 'garmin connect appears to be busy, try again later', or bluetooth won't stay connected, or bluetooth connects but doesn't sync, or garmin connect freezes and hangs the iPhone (garmin connect screen open and phone totally unresponsive. Screen shot show garmin connect saying bluetooth is not turned on but it is clearly visible in top right corner that it is on.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1298605.jpg
