Hi. Why can not I enter the IQ tab during the activity? I would like to download Trailforks routes and to do this I would have to stop recording the current activity. Is there a way?
You can download all the trails you plan to ride before you start. They will be in your Saved Courses. It is possible to switch course in the middle of a ride/recording. And you won't need the IQ app to do that.
And what if you change the driving plan? You will not use Kamoot or Trailforks without interrupting the recording of the current route.
As long as you have downloaded all the trails you can with without using the IQ app, just stop the current course and start a different course (trail).
Personally I rather use a custom maps that has the MTB trails on it and use the map to navigate without following any route/course. Such maps are available online but coverage can vary.
The question is: can the Garmin group not fix it? For me this is a serious problem): I never plan exactly trips and I like to adjust the plan while driving, depending on the situation.
Their system is not a sophisticated OS that allow multitasking so they will not do what you want. But there are workable ways do achieve what you need. I explained two do them, namely switching between preloaded courses/trails - and custom maps. You can either learn those ways, find another way or I am afraid you will remain desapointed.
Thank you for your response. The ways you write about are obvious to me. I do not think that's a matter of multitasking. I still hope Garmin will fix this in the software update.
A fix isn't comming because it's not broken. It's designed to run this way. Either you run a built-in activity, or you run an IQ app. You can't have both at the same time.
It's a shame Apps can't be used whilst running an activity. I have the same issue with the Sendpoints app, which I'd like to use on the fly. Widgets on the other hand can run in tandem. Some devs have produced their CIQ Apps as Widgets also, there's probably some more hurdles to overcome so unfortunately not many
Widgets and data fields are limited in what they can do, meaning the widget (and datafield) subsystem is designed so that it does not interfere with any running activity. Not all apps can be successfuly implemented as widgets without loosing functionality.
