Problem when creating routes by putting downloaded TCX files in Newfiles directory

To create a route in my gps, i normally put my TCX file in the directory New Files of Garmin and then my route is created after switching off-on my gps. That works fine with my Edge 800.
But now nothing is created on my 1030 in my registered routes.
What do I do wrong? Is there a parameter I must change to make my routes created?
Thanks for your help.
  • The way you do it is just right and also works on Edge 1030.
    What comes to my mind:
-you've stored more than 100 courses
-the TCX file does not comply with the standard

Thanks very much mcinner1, the problem was this stupid limid of 100 courses already stored. Now it works when i deleted some courses.
I don't understand why there is a limit in this 1030, on my Edge 800, i have more than 100 !!!
  • Just wondering why the need to store 100 courses on the 1030. Why not just download the course to the 1030 from Connect Mobile? The Garmin file system is rather weak and I have found that the more that is stored on the device, the slower it performs. Also, a greater chance for file corruption.
  • For me the Edge is not the place I keep my routes library. They are in the Garmin Connect site where I have several hundreds of them, and other sources at time. I transfer them to the Edge when I need them using the Connect Mobile app. I clear them from the Edge regularly.

You can transfer a GPX to the EDGE with Connect Mobile; a TCX I am not sure. To do it have the GPX in the file app or another file manager (Dropbox, OneDrive, etc). On the file you want touch the Share icon and the share sheet will open (that is for iOS). In the share sheet one of the actions will be to send to Garmin Connec - follow the instructions. This will convert the GPX to a FIT on your phone, add it to your Courses folder, and then you can send to the Edge. Trick is that this process is not initiated from within the Gamin Connect Mobile app but using the share action.
