can't sync fit file (too large) and can't access edge 1030 with computer

I completed an 83.5 mile ride on my new edge 1030 and I can't upload the activity with the mobile app, it won't sync with Garmin express (says file too large) and when I try to access it with File Exlporer with a Windows 10 laptop it show up as USB Drive H with no content, not as an Edge device. I have powered down the device and pressed the lap+reset buttons to reboot the device and still no luck. All I want to do is get the fit file off the device so I can fix it with the fit file repair tool but I can't even do that. Garmin express says there is still a lot of storage left on the device (only 65% full), but I cannot access it with file explorer to get at the file. Please help.
