FW 7.20 and Incident Detection?

On my ride last night I managed to loose my front wheel and was catapulted through a hedge landing in a stream on my back. Luckily I was not unconscious and my face was out of the water. I was lucky and I'm generally OK and with a few bumps and strains and importantly, the bike is fine! :)

However, more importantly, my incident detection was not triggered. I have successfully triggered the incident detection before in lesser spills and it's proven it's a good feature in that respect but tonight could have been an important use of it if it had worked.

???????Previously in the ride I received a text message on the Garmin - so the phone / Garmin communications was working - incident detection is enabled in the Garmin.

Is this a 7.20 issue, is there a repeatable way of triggering the incident detection to confirm it's working?
  • In the case of gps positioning and recording, raise edge 1030, hit it very fast three times on the palm, so you can trigger it
  • Since upgrading to the new firmware, I managed to set off the incident detection 3 times on 2 rides. I did have a problem on my phone so I had to re-pair the garmin to the smart phone. I can't say if this was from the firmware from garmin or the recent update to Android Pie. In any case, you can always set of the incidenct detection during an activity by lifting the front tire and letting is drop to the pavement from about 10cm or 4 inches while standing. This trick will not working in motion!!

I set it off today. I got on the bike, pushed off and before I even clipped in the 2nd pedal it went off. Puzzled, I disarmed it, and then promptly disabled it. Which is sad, because this was one of the main features that pushed me to upgrade from my older Garmin.
