Edge 1030 - Not able to connect to PC thru USB

I'm suddenly not able to connect my 1030 to any of 3 PC's using multiple ports and cables. It charges thru the connection but none of the PC's show any device or drive connections. I tried a master reset of the 1030 but no change. Otherwise, it works fine. I'm on 7.0 and have connected in the past with this version.

Tried another genuine Garmin cable and it seems to be working although somewhat buggy in that it fails to sync with Garmin Connect the first time when plugged in. Get a red banner saying it failed to sync but if I try again, it syncs.
  • I am having same problem after syncing to 7.2 the 1030 remained on 7.0. Computer will not recognize 1030. 1030 will not upload ride to phone app.
  • This forum does not work correctly. It takes a many tries to post. There is not need for that stupid ROBOT check.

Anyway I have the same issue after installing 7.2. I see the Edge 1030 for a few seconds then it disappears.

Got it to work now. Rebooted WIN 10 computer and then connected to the USB 2.0 outlet instead of the USB 3.0 outlet. Could be my motherboard. I'll have to check it with my RCA WIN 10 tablet. IT only has USB 3.0 and worked before. This 1030 is picky.
  • Took 7 times to get past the Robot check error.
  • There are problems with the 1030 connection <-> PC. Today, after several minutes I got access to Edge. Earlier, there was no such thing. Edge software error.
  • After map upgrade 2019.10 connection with PC works!

  • Mine won't work through a USB hub anymore.  Used to work fine, now has to be plugged into my Mac directly which has limited ports.  Sucks.  WTF Garmin?

So sick of the connectivity problems.  These 1030's are so temperamental.  And now trying to use mine with a new MacBook Pro, it won't connect due to needing to use a USB port hub (USB-C to USB-2/3).

The bigger question for Garmin... why on EARTH do we still need to be connecting via cable, when the 1030 has both wifi and bluetooth, in order to be able to upload route files???  Get your act together, activate wireless file upload like 99.99% of all other device manufacturers.

  • Only time I ever connect mine to a PC is to install betas or update maps, everything else is already over BT/wireless and Garmin Connect Mobile.

  • I'm having the same issue.  Once I switched back to the shorter original USB cable it sync'd OK.
