Adding maps of France and Great Britain to USA 1030

Hello,
What is the best method for adding maps to my 1030 (currently loaded with USA OSM and Topo maps) for France and Great Britain? Should I buy the Garmin OSM Europe maps (if so, am I better off with download or SD card) or is there a OSM equivalent? I live in the US and don't want to cause problems with my USA/Canada map set. I am planning on a summer trip to GB and doing PBP

I'd just get the free OSM mapping, there are various websites that provide them. You could start here http://www.openfietsmap.nl/downloads/europe

I have used maps (Generic routable) downloaded from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ without problems. You could buy and add (white round button under your 1030) an external MICROSD card. Copy the maps you'll need in the Garmin folder on the SD card. Beware that it's take time for the 1030 to "digest" the new maps on the first opening following the maps addition. I usually rename the imported maps something like "france_gmapsupp.img" or else before I copy them.
You'll have to select the new maps under the Profile you are using. Generic Routable maps can also be used as a car GPS.

You can also take the + version, example France + give you 50 km around france, inclusive germany, luxembourg, ...

I use this maps 80 % of time. You can choose english or german langage to select what you want.
