Livetrack - Firmware v7.07 - No mail send

Hi

With 6.30, livetrack worked fine.

With 7.00, i had the message no contact ...

With 7.07, no message at all. I see on the Edge 1030, livetrack enable, but no mail are sent to the 2 contacts.

Have you somme suggestions ?

Ihone 7, IOS 12.1.4, Connect 4.15.1.2 , Edge 1030 V7.07

I start first connect, then the 1030, then the activity. Livetrack is on autostart.

Regards
  • This bug was introduced by latest iOS Garmin Connect upgrade when they changed the contacts management.

Not fully tested on ride yet, but it appears that you have to have Garmin Connect open on iPhone when you click start on Garmin Edge 1030 for the Auto Start to send emails!!! This has changed since previous version of Garmin Connect. Others reporting similar with Incident Detection being disabled (no access to contacts) if Garmin Connect not open when starting Garmin. If app on iPhone not used for a while and not open it does not work.

    iPhone 8, iOS 12.1.4, Edge 1030 v7
  • I had a similar issue. For me removing and re-adding the contacts to the Livetrack recipients list fixed the issue.

You're the best. It's working again.

I do this, perhaps it can help :
    - Remove all contact in Garmin connect
    - I turned on the garmin, received a message No contact ... live track OFF, and turned off the garmin
    - Kill the APP on the phone

    - Start the APP again
    - create the contact when finished kill the app
    - Start the app and turned on the garmin Edge.
    - After few seconds, start a run, immediately received the mail .

I thought this fixed mine at first, but tried a few days later and did not work again with Auto Start on the Edge.

I think the key was it worked when the Garmin Connect app was open when I changed the contact settings so it worked. After not opening GC App on phone for a few days and starting activity on Edge 1030 (with Auto Start Live Track) it does not send emails. I think the key is the GC App has to be open or very recently opened for Auto Start Live Track to send emails.
  • I think there are 2 issues, one is the contact information that may have gotten messed up when the app changed the way it handles contacts. The second issue is GCM being active, which I agree appears to need to be opened manually on iOS if it is not already running before you start an activity.

Just waisted an hour of my life trying to work out which conditions allow Live Track Auto Start to send emails and when it does not, and now I am more confused than ever. It sent an email on first test of Live Track Auto Start on Edge 1030. I then tried with GC app closed down on iPhone, it did not send emails (even though Edge 1030 said Live Track Started). I tried again with GC app open on iPhone but still did not send emails, 2 more tests and still did not send emails.

I GIVE UP, this used to work well for me for months and now broken, I point the finger at the GC app because the Garmin Edge 1030 reports Live Track start/stop correctly.

Life is too short to keep troubleshooting Garmin bugs!!! So I am going to bin Live Track (which sucks all the iPhone battery anyway) and just share my location on the iPhone - which does what it says on the tin and just works!
