Trouble connecting Giant Power Pro to Edhge 1030

Since a couple of days proud owner of a Giant Defy with Giant Power Pro meters. I also bought a new Garmin Edge 1030.
When connecting the powermeter to the Edge 1030 I have problems..

Connecting by ANT+ it sees only one powermeter and also the cadanse.

When connecting with bluetooth it finds 2 power sensors:
L_PowerPro_613
non-service614

But that's all it's doing. In menu with the ppowerinfo eall the field stay empty.

Anyone a suggestion , or do I have some sort of Death On Arrival in the bluetooth environment ?
This i'm also asking while i cannot make connection toot with my iPhone7....

  • Over ANT it should only show as a single power meter. One side is the master the other is the slave. The master aggregates the data from both sides and passes it to the head unit.

This is also likely the case over BLE, which is why one side shows as non-service.

Have you calibrated the power meter? Does it work correct using their phone app, RideLink app?

  • I know this video and I have installed the RideLink app on my iphone, but whatever I do on turning the cranks, the app is not showing anything after pressing the bluetooth-logo in the app (I was thinking of problem with firmware in the Power Pro, but because there is no connection in the app I can't check for possible updates)

In ANT+ it looks like it's functioning as one powermeter, because L-R is always 50%, even if I use one foot while pedalling.

On website Giant it says: This fully integrated, dual-sided power meter measures power output and delivers accurate data to help you track, analyze and improve your performance on the bike.

I assume that this means I should see 2 powermeters...

    To be continues
  • A dual-sided power meter measures data on both side, but typically only appears as a single sensor to the head unit. As I mentioned above, one side is the master. The master provides the communication with the head unit. It sends the total power value along with the balance (the contribution made by both sides). All dual-sided power meters appear as a single device over ANT.

It sounds like you need to be working with Giant. Until you can get the power meter working with their phone app and make sure that the software is up to date and that both sides are correctly talking with each there is not much that people can do for you on the Garmin forum.
  • Aweatherall, thanks for your update.

Reason of asking here was to find someone with garmin edge 1030 en Giant Power Pro.
So I could see/compare what goes wrong.

The 'movies' on YouTube do not give me more info, than I already know.

I will indeed contact Giant to see if there's a problem with the power meters.

  • Let me know what you find out. I have not seen the Giant power meter in the wild so I would interested to know what the solution/issue is.
  • Hi,
I have the giant ultegra power meter (power pro).
Make sure you update the firmware using the Giant RideLink app.
I connect to the power meter via ANT+ on my Edge 1030. I just get power readings from it.
I can also connect via Bluetooth on the Giant RideLink app and see pedal force vs. angle.
Let me know if updating the firmware helps,
    Ian
  • @Gte534j: Do you see (while using ANT+) different powerlevels left and right and while dsearching for sensors, does it see one or two items ?
When I am connecting the pedals to ANT+ it discovers one item, and when i use this item I'm reading left and right the same value (even with one foot not on the pedal) and it says that my level is Left 50% and Right 50%. Also the Cadans is working fine,

Further my Iphone with the Giant RideLink app is not discovering anything, so it's not possible to check/update firmware. And Bluetooth is working fine on my phone (carkit, Edge 1030, fenix 3HR)
That's of coourse my first thought, updating to the lastest firmware. (I did update the Edge already from 7.0 to 7.0.7, but that gave the same results)

  • when searching for ANT+ i only find one giant power meter.
Have you tried another mobile device to connect via Giant RideLink? I have a Android LGV30 and it works for me. Maybe connect with a android mobile device to the Giant power meter and then update the firmware. If not sounds like you might have to get the power meter replaced.
Oh- also make sure they power meters are BOTH fully charged (green light)
  • Tonight I had the chance to use the Huawei Android phone of my girlfriend. I installed the Giant Ride Link.
    It finds one item: no-service614.
When I try to update firmware, it will go to 1 or 2 percent and then followed by an error.

This gives me indeed the feeling that somehow the problem is in the Power Meters and time to contact dealer for replacements.....

  • yeah- it sounds like its the power meter. If you have access to another power meter you could try to connect your edge to that one to verify that the giant power meter is giving you the problems.
