Varia Vision not staying connected to Edge 1030

*EDIT*
Edge 1030 Firmware 7
Varia Vision Firmware 3.5

I decided to take a leap of faith on the Varia Vision as I need a way to scroll through data screens since the Edge Remote won't stay connected while my phone is connected to the Edge 1030.
Day 1 and this seems like a big mistake so far.
The Vision synced up fine and worked right out of the box.
Then I hooked up a speed sensor to the edge and spun the wheel.

Issue 1:
Speed data constantly dropping, as in not transmitting to the Vision. The 'Distance' was updating just fine on the Vision, but the SPEED sensor data (although updating consistently on the edge) would briefly show up on the Vision, then go blank, then show up, blank, so on and so forth.
*I rebooted the Edge and then the speed sensor worked JUST FINE after that. Tried a few more times and worked fine.

Issue 2: Later into the evening I powered up the Edge and the Vision. For some reason the vision didn't automatically connect, so I went to sensors > Vision > Connect (in the Edge settings).
Everything was then fine (or was it...).
Every 1-2 minutes I would get a vibration on the Vision and a message stating the Edge 1030 Disconnected, immediately followed by a message saying it Connected.
I let this go on for about 20 minutes and it never stopped constantly disconnecting / reconnecting. It never 'stayed' disconnected tho.
I then disconnected my phone (it was constantly disconnecting / reconnecting from the Edge 1030 anyway!).
This didn't fix things with the Vision - still kept reconnecting to the Edge.

I powered the Edge 1030 and the Varia Vision off, and back on.
Unsure if related, but this time I booted the Edge with the phone disconnected.
The Edge and Vision automatically connected, and now it's working fine. Going on 20 minutes and not a single disconnect.

So what gives? Are both the remote AND the Vision not working with the Edge 1030?
I connected it to a friend's 1000 for a bit and never saw a problem.
So I'm *THINKING* that once I get the Vision connected to the Edge 1030 and confirm it's working fine for a few minutes, then all might be well?
Or maybe I just need to boot the Edge with Bluetooth Phone disabled?
I'll try to get in an actual ride tomorrow but as of now, I'm not too happy.

*EDIT #2*
I've still got the last mentioned "ride" going (sitting on my couch). I connected my phone as everything looked good after 45 minutes. It's now going on 1 hour and 20 minutes with the phone still connected, and the Varia Vision has not had anymore dropouts (tho I'm not currently using any other sensors, such as speed). Just checking connectivity.

So it sort of appears that as long as it's working on bootup, maybe everything is okay. If anyone else with experience on this could chime in, that'd be great.
  • The latest Varia vision firmware build is 3.60 so I would suggest updating that first.
    [h=4]Changes made from version 3.50 to 3.60:[/h]
    • General data field issues fixes
    • Draw radar overlay on top of alerts
    • Improve graphical data field

Wow, rookie mistake. Thanks. I checked the FW on the unit, then saw the most recent mentioned firmware in the Varia forums shows 3.5 for vision (I guess 3.6 was just never mentioned there). I'll give 3.6 a shot.
I'm confident it will definitely fix issue 1, as I also saw really bad graph issues when the speed sensor was flaky. So that's great.
On the vision -> 1030 dropouts tho, I can only assume it's a 1030 issue like so many other dropout issues, but I'll post back after giving it some testing. Fingers crossed!

    There were actually 2 updates.
    1. System firmware 3.6 - should take care of the datafields & graph issues I saw.
    2. ANT+ / BLE firmware 3.9 - I can't find this mentioned anywhere on garmin's site but it referenced something about improved capability with Garmin Connect? Anyway I opened connect and it has no interaction with the device, but I'm hoping it takes care of the disconnects I saw in one instance.
-Been letting it run on the table and so far no issues, hopeful now. :-D

After a week I think things are looking good on the Varia Vision. Just thought I'd update in case anyone else reads this and is on the fence.
