Is the Edge 1030 Map quite basic?

Is the Edge 1030 maps meant to be really basic? Strava segments are in the middle of no where and apparently not routable...

I live in the UK and checking the Map information on the device I only have 1 map available which is named "INTL Standard Basemap, NR".

Is this normal?
  • I amount familiar with the UK maps but you can go to the below link and get a better map for your area. The site is owned by Garmin so I am not sure why it is so hard to get the map into the Edge but oh well.

That map is a basic map without detail. It's a worldwide map.

The newer Garmins that use maps (all since the Touring) come with detailed maps for the device's region based on Openstreetmap data.

Devices sold in North America come with North American maps; devices sold in Europe come with European maps. If you need maps for other regions, there are a few places that provide free maps (like in the post above).

In the \Garmin folder on the device, you should see the following files:

    gmaptz.img (timezone map)
    gmapbmap.img (base map)
    gmapprom.img (detailed map)
    gmapgc.img (address lookup map)
    gmapdem.img (elevation data map)

That site isn't owned by Garmin.

"Garmin" in the name is just indicating that the website produces maps for Garmin devices.

Note that the maps that should have come with the device are using the same source data.

    Cheers for the reply mate,

Seems i'm missing some of those maps (no idea why, its just out the box)... Using Garmin Express to reinstall them, hopefully resolve the map detail :)

    Cheers mate,

I used that site for my Edge 520, excellent maps (possible fall back).

    Edit---

Reinstalling the Garmin Maps via Garmin Express resolved it, Cheers!
