Firmware 7.0 turn-by-turn beeps

Recently upgraded to FW 7.0. All seemed good until I started using my 1030 with a route loaded on it for turn-by-turn navigation.
Pre 7.0, there were 2 sets of tones (multiple beeps) when approaching a turn - one around 100-150 metres before and another right before the juntion. Both sets of tones were, under normal conditions, relatively audible.
Now, with 7.0, the first tone I get is an almost inaudible single beep (still at approx 100-150 metres before the turn) followed by the regular (pre 7.0) beep just before the turn.
Has anybody else noticed this? Personally, I find it hugely irritating and want the old tones back. The current tones give you no time at all to prepare for the junction if you miss the first very quiet beep.
Garmin - please fix this ASAP.
  • I have not tried the routing yet. But if the tones has been turned a bit down, I will love it. They where way too loud before. In fact I did put a piece of duck tape on the "speaker" output to dampen the sound a bit. Totally annoying standing there with a group, standing still for a red light, and then BEEEEEP when starting to roll again...

So a warm welcome here ;-)
  • Teriemer that are the beeps for autopause not for turn by turn, in this case yes , it should be changed but it wasn,t

I did not test autside but I did test indoor with gps put on demo , and yes the first beep is diferent, a high pich lets lets say and very very short, I don't know if somewone will hear that
  • The turn by turn beeps have changed indeed. The chirp warning for the radar has changed into a burst of 3 beeps. My opinion, these changes are made to prevent mistakes. The turn by turn is adapted to this. I always use radar and turn by turn warning and this audio solution is fine for me.
  • Why can't Garmin just add a menu option so we can select the number of beeps, frequency and volume ourselves? I like to have loud beeps, other like soft beeps. Just give us the option to select it ourselves.
  • I like the beep changes for the rear radar, much more audible, although they can be a little ear piercing when down a quiet country lane. The change in beeps whilst using navigation must be an error.... I can barely detect that the unit is beeping on a quiet country lane, wouldn't stand a chance hearing it in traffic.

All that being said, it's still a great device even with the screen halo issue, the poor battery performance in the cold and all these beeps.....

I've noticed the same issue. The first beep with the turn-by-turn navigation is barely hearable. I want the 'old' tones back too. This is hugely irritating indeed.
  • I rode a route today with turn-by-turn navigation. I couldn't hear any of the beeps! The old Edge 800 was loud enough to hear both sets of beeps.
  • it would be great if I could set a beep only when navigating. I dont want a beep all the time, but only when I turn.
  • You can. Settings / Warnings
  • I had some dialogue with Garmin on the issue that some of you are having with the beep for the turn instructions changing. The beep selection was not changed in the code, but the update process on some units has caused an unplanned beep change. Garmin are working on a fix, but you can fix yourself if you are prepared to do a reset of the unit.

If you are going to do a reset remember to back-up all you information so that you can restore it after the reset.
