Updated to 7.0 but Galileo option not available. GPS software not updated?

I just updated to 7.0 but the Galileo option isn't available. The release notes indicate that the GPS software needs to be updated, but there was no option to perform that update in Garmin Express.

On my unit's about screen, it shows the GPS version as "4.40(!)"

Any suggestions?

  • This is how it went with my 1030...
Plugged into my PC, running Garmin Express 6.10.0.0, the new software was updated to 7.00.
Then I had to restart the unit and the update started on the actual unit.
Once done, quickly checked for GALILEO - not there... Shut down, plug again to the PC.
Another small update, but looked like a normal sync (wasn't saying it is updating).
Took it off the cable, restart and... Firmware was updating on the unit itself!
Afterwards all nice and shiny - everything works flawlessly!

Maybe important part: ALWAYS disconnect your device FIRST from the small icon next to the clock on the task bar - USB connections, then right click on Garmin and Disconnect. Then Windows says "It is now safe to remove your device". I always do it and thus avoiding any file system corruption on the 1030.

    Hope this helps!
  • I have just update my edge 1030 version to v7.00 from http://gawisp.com/perry/edge/
I can not use garmin express beacuse of the firewall issues :(
After updating to fw 7.00 the gps version seems 4.40 (!). Is it correct? What is the correct gps version for fw 7.00. Does it neccessary to use garmin express for updating gps version.
    Thanks.
  • uguryemez - I too experienced this issue. However I noticed that my Edge started the update process in a 'Indoor' ride profile. I loaded the new software via Garmin Express and then unplugged to load that software version. Once that was complete, I plugged it back into the computer for another sync/update. It then powered on and did not show an update. However once I changed the ride profile to one that used GPS, the firmware update loaded and the Edge acquired a GPS signal. This process did take a few minutes to complete but everything worked correctly after the Edge acquired a GPS signal.

Thanks for you feedback. While the gps is on (Road profile) I downgraded the FW 6.46 Beta then upgraded FW 7.00 using gupdate.gcd files. After update procdure was completed, the garmin synced with pc via garmin connect (Android). I made some several power off/on and I waited to fix GPS signal, but nothing is changed. Galileo option is missing :( The gps version is still 4.40 (!)
  • You should use Garmin Express on PC and not the Connect on your mobile! Befor eit, pls check the NewFiles folder on your Garmin device and if there is a file, delete it and start the Garmin Express and sync it (probably you wont see any update but it will download the gps update file in the background), disconnect your Garmin, switch it on and you should see as it updates gps chipset fw. (and the Garmin Express should be the latest, 6.11 version, so update it also if you have an old release from it)

Is there any way to update gps version without garmin express? My PC config doesn't support garmin express. Thanks,
  • Probably the Garmin Webupdater on PC.

There is a folder Garmin/RemoteSW on your Edge 1030. This folder contains the GPS-software.
On my device - which has updated to Galileo - there are two GPS-software files:
006B162100.GCD size: 559,272 Bytes. This is Version 4.40 (without Galileo)
006B295700.GCD size: 675,028 Bytes. This is Version 2.30 (the newer, with Galileo)

Maybe it's possible to simply copy the V2.30 GCD-file into this folder - BUT I DON'T KNOW!
Maybe someone can enlighten us, if that step is or is not dangerous.
(I can provide you with that GCD-file)

Concerning the file names - it looks reasonable:

Very good info. Thanks :) I have just downloaded the v2.30 gps version from the link you mentioned, but I am afraid to upload to my garmin. Does anybody think that it's harmful?

  • @mcinner1 Woowww.. It works... The message appears that the gps firmware is updated on my garmin unit. My gps version is v2.30 and I can see the Galileo option right now. The gps signal is also fixed properly. Thank you very much :)
