1030 freezes ->when more than 253 workouts are saved

Hello to all,
If more than 253 workouts (fit files) over all 44 MB) are saved in the activities folder then my 1030 freezes when I select protocols -> tours.
Have tried saving intern memory or micro SD card -> same bug
A lot of space is free on the micro SD card.
Any solution for this bug/problem?
FW 7.0 doesn't help.
Thanks in advance.

Update: more than 255 files -> freezing.
Seems to be a 255 file limit
Micro SD Card = FAT32

  • Yes there are limits. The Edge is not really intended as a long term mass storage device. I'm not sure why you would want to keep so much history on the unit. Archive it off. For optional performance keep the number of activities well below 200. I would archive them off every month if you need to keep them.
  • What is the best/easiest way to remove old exercises?
  • The easiest way is to connect the Edge to a PC and go to the Garmin\Activities folder and delete the activities you no longer wish to keep. If you are using a Mac make sure to empty the trash before disconnecting the Edge to really remove them.
  • pdxfisher - You can manage the history on the Edge or using your computer. Management the Edge is the easiest as you do not need a computer.

    On the Edge:
    • Touch History
    • Select Rides
    • Touch the Trashcan Icon in the bottom right
    • Select Rides to be deleted
    • Touch the Check Mark in the bottom right
If you want to use a computer:
    • First plug the Edge into the computer.
    • Open the Garmin Drive
    • Open the Garmin Folder
    • Open Activities
    • Delete the .fit files that are no longer needed (If you are wanting to save the files, simply copy and paste the files to a folder or the desktop of your computer.)
  • Can't the Garmin do this itself automatically? Bit clunky to have to delete them manually. Maybe delete anything over a month old thats been uploaded to GC, something like that?
  • The use of a computer is usefully if you have hundreds of activities to clean up. If you do it on a regular basis then you can do it through the Edge.
  • Understand but the device should be self managing and not break just because you've been using it for a long time. Having to delete workouts manually (particularly via a PC) is a bit old school.
