As per the instructions in the notice, I went to Garmin Connect to update the 1030 with the GPS update and did not see anything specific. I did see a couple of "Unlabled" updates.
How does one know if they have updated their 1030 with the GPS update to allow the 7.0 version to use the updated GPS functionality?
You have to use Garmin Express (not Connect). If you cannot chose „Galileo“ under GPS your Edge has not updated the GPS software. After updating to v7.00 connect your device to PC/Mac and let it update (in my case no action was necessary), simply wait for synchronising and then reboot your Edge. I did use the Garmin Express which syncs with Connect when you finally get logged in. It had 6 updates shown and when it did do the updates didn't clear the list (it kept showing the time zone update as being available and I installed it at least twice).
I was totally surprised yesterday when I connected my unit to Garmin Express and it said it had updated to version 7.0. I am not even sure the announcement had been posted, I was just trying to update to 6.3 as part of uploading a new course. Maps were updated as well. Everything seemed to go smoothly. I have not ridden yet and I am not sure when I will get out. I can see the Magellan satellites and switch back and forth between them and GLONASS. Both locked quickly for me. 1030 synched to my phone quickly. I did not take it into the garage to try all the sensors but I do not anticipate any issues.
