Edge 1030 speed sensor dropout solution

Hi, please may i have some assistance ? I have upgraded from Edge 800 to 1030 and experiencing speed sensor dropout after approximately 20 minutes despite my cadence still being registered (am using a speed/cadence sensor). Furthermore the GPS does not kick in after sensor dropout. I also experience the same issues when using Fenix 5 after virtually the same time period.

Any ideas as have been searching forum to find a solution but to no avail unless someone can direct to an appropriate thread ?
  • I have same speed dropouts while indoor riding... Thought it was my Kickr, but then swapped to a Neo2 the other day. Speed drops are still there....?/%&#!#

Thanks... do you get same issue when riding outside ? Speed dropout occurred today after an hour.... frustrating
  • No issues on this MTB ride outside

Check this indoor ride in comparison:

And note that indoor is the same issues no matter trainer (Kickr18 or Neo2). No matter next to trainer or 1,5m away.

Also worth mentioning - I have no other ANT+ issues indoor. That is Zwift, with power from V3.

    So kinda odd...?!
  • So on the kickr and Neo, are you getting the speed transmitted from the trainer itself since you obviously don't have a separate wheel speed sensor? BT or Ant+? And are just getting drops or completely loss of speed? I've had no issues with the speed or cadence from my Kickr (original version) using Ant+ to my Edge 1030. I have had power drops which seem to improve when I connect my phone to the 2.4ghz wifi instead of 5.0ghz.

Outside, what speed sensor are you using? This sounds like an issue with the magnets being slightly off center or slightly too far from the sensor. Maybe as things warm up, they are just off enough to stop working.

I am having the same issue with 2 speed sensors I have connected to my garmin edge 1030, the speed sensor signal drops for 2-5 seconds and then the head unit seems to pick up the signal again. I have an indoor trainer that has 1 speed sensor and I am using another bike with the other sensor to go outside. Both, indoor and outdoor bikes are having the issue of dropping the speed signal to the unit (it seems it is only the speed signal, the heart rate, power and cadence seems to be ok). I have changed the coin batteries in both sensor and remove and added the sensors to the edge unit, but no change. It is indeed annoying since I have the autopause enabled, and am am constantly hearing the autopause going off and on.
  • I'm seeing this too, a constant pause/unpause when I'm going slow. My sensor is a Bontrager Duotap and the cadence is working fine even when the speed is dropping out.
I did have an incident recently when I lost my wheel magnet and the ride stopped recording completely, that does seem like strange behaviour.
