1030 navigation and mobile edge software lacking

Say you want to route from your current location to a location named bob's super awesome local bike shop. You can't look that up on the mobile app then send the route to your 1030 *OR* look it up on the 1030 then set the route on the device. The only option right now is to use your phone, look up the address, then type the address into the device. Sadly the vertical display will more often than not truncate the address so you're not able to be confident if it's routing you to "long street name North" or "long street name south" because the text is displayed on one line opposed to wrapping the next line down. Two huge gaps here. Please vote up this issue!
  • I agree. It would be so much better to pick a location on GCM or Apple Maps and send it to the Edge as a waypoint for navigation. Would be so much easier than the clunky Edge interface and it's incomplete POI database and lack of a contact list. The phone will always be a better place to pick the destination.

To be clear, GCM only need to send the coordinates lf the location selected (long, lat), not an address. The Edge can compute the route based on that waypoint. Much easier and avoid any mismatch between the Edge POI database and Apple or Google maps.
  • Try the Sendpoints CIQ App. Search for the place you need, generate the code. Enter the code on the App on the edge, which retrieves the location from the Sendpoints server & stores it on your Edge... Select the Saved Location on the edge & navigate...Simples

Interesting. I will try it. Thanks for the tip.

No offense but the Sendpoints route seems a little convoluted.

I did think that the Connect IQ app Yelp, would solve this in a less convoluted fashion. However, everything I look up on yelp, when I click on the results to route it there I get a 400 error.

    1) open the ConnectIQ app
    2) Click on bike shop
    3) It displays the closest LBS then I click on one hoping to use my 1030 to route me there
    4) The results are 400 and I have no other options, basically it's a dead end

    Thoughts?

It is a little convoluted but using the 1030 for doing searches has its own problems.

The SendPoints App only provides the destination poi, its the Edge 1030 that calculates the route based on the navigation & routing settings in the Activity Profile you are using
