Help please adding maps!

I have just bought a 1030. I am trying to install a "Feitsmap" to replace the pre-installed maps.
The transfer seems to complete but neither Basecamp nor the 1030 are listing the new transferred map.
Can''t find any info in the manual.
Can anyone help please?

    Update...
The map had installed to the 64gb microSDXC card.
Now removed the card and installed a smaller area of the map which does now show.
So why is my 64gb SDXC card not being recognized? Manual says up to 1TB???

  • It also says formatted as FAT32 (note it's up to 2TB). 64Gb cards aren't that by default so you need to format it to FAT32.
  • How many map segments does you map contain?

Very confusing! Disk was ExFAT 64gb. Disc utility says use this for more than 32gb. Now formatted FAT32, get info still shows 64Gb with Fat32 format so should now be OK.

Segments...LOTS!!! it is a Feitsmap covering all Europe. If I am limited to a certain number of segments can I download the whole map in segments and then combine the segments? What would be the way to do it? I don't mind having the map in sections ie...France, Germany, UK etc.

  • Well try it first. I have multiple maps loaded without issue, I suspect your problem was simply the format

I've given up trying to install the whole Europe map. Feitsmap have broken it down into 7 areas and it seems to be installing them ok.
BASECAMP seems very slow to show all the installed maps. Not impressed. JAVaWa looks useful.
    Thanks for the help.

  • BaseCamp initially needs to index the maps, after that it will read them almost instantaneously

As a sidenote, I find it is much much faster installing maps from Basecamp to an SD card when it is out of the Garmin unit and in an SD reader connected to the PC. On my PC, to install the Velomap whole of Europe map takes about 15 hours with the SD card in the Garmin, and about half an hour with the SD card in a reader. To be able to install to the SD card in a reader, just copy GarminDevice.xml from the internal storage of the Garmin to the corresponding folder on the SD card, and Basecamp will then see the SD card on its own as a Garmin device.
  • You don't need to use Basecamp to install map files. You can copy the img file directly to the \Garmin folder. The name of the img file doesn't matter (you can rename it to something other than the default).
