The 1030 has issues with accepting structured workouts built in TrainingPeaks, which worked fine on the 810. One issue is that the workout step type labels have changed in the 1030 but not in TraininngPeaks. The active step in an interval workout is typically labelled "active" or "work" in the TrainingPeaks workout builder, which was recognized and handled correctly by the 810. However, the 1030 for some reason no longer recognizes either of those labels and decides to label those workout steps as "other". Garmin should coordinate with TrainingPeaks so that both companies use the same labels for this field.
A more serious issue is that TrainingPeaks workout builder can specify both cadence and power targets in the same workout step. The 810 handled this correctly but the 1030 simply drops the cadence targets. This is a big problem if your coach creates workout steps with both cadence and power, which is useful.
Another issue is that it was possible to enter text in the TrainingPeaks workout builder that displayed properly on the 810. That does not seem possible on the 1030. The result is that the user will see a step labelled "other", with only a power target and neither a cadence target nor an explanatory note. Good luck remembering what cadence targets were associated with each interval step with a power target.
Personally, I found the step type names and method of operation between TrainingPeaks and the 810 to be intuitive and usable. By changing the features and labels arbitrarily and not coordinating with TrainingPeaks, 1030 users have lost valuable functionality without gaining anything. Any thoughts?
