GPS Ready

I've been noticing lately that my Edge 1030 takes several minutes to find satellites. I have been turning the unit on in my garage, then putting on my shoes, then rolling my bike outside and bringing up my first data screen. If satellites have been located, the speed field reads "0.0". If not, that field is blank. A couple of days ago, the unit was ready to go as soon as I got outside. Today, it took another 3-4 minutes. I was riding around the end of the street waiting for the "GPS Ready" message and for the speed field to show zero.

Are others having this problem? Is there anything I can do to speed up the satellite location process? Note: I'm currently using GPS satellites only. I have used GPS+GLONASS in the past. I think I was having the same experience with GPS+GLONASS.

I have found that since installing the 6.43/6.44 beta FW, and setting the GPS mode to GPS+Galileo, my 1030 gets GPS lock very quickly - within a couple of seconds of the home screen appearing when the unit is powered on. Others have reported the same speed-up.
  • I have been having the same issue for a few weeks using using GPS satellites and GPS+GLONASS
  • Sorry, I am use google translation
In my experience, if you use GPS, you can drop down the page, first convert to GPS + GLONASS, then convert to GPS, which can speed up the satellite positioning speed, you can try
  • same here...with the edge remote still very erratic
  • I continue to have a problem with the slow identification of satellites on my Edge 1030. Yesterday, the unit was ready to go after a couple of minutes. I had turned it on in my garage, then put on my shoes, and rolled the bike outside. I checked to see if the first screen was showing speed, and it wasn't, but before I could do anything else, a speed of "0.0" appeared. Other days, I have to either wait for a couple of minutes longer, or start fiddling with the unit's settings.

I have found that if I go into Settings, then Activity Profiles, then GPS Mode, and turn the mode to Off, then turn it back to GPS, I usually get the GPS Ready notification very quickly.

I still don't know why I have to play these games. This model Edge and the previous Edge 1000 used to pick up the satellites much more quickly.
  • As colin-campbell mentions - ( I have the exact same issue over the past 8 weeks or so, Version 6.30, GPS version 4.40 TSC Version 85.11.00) - why do I have to go through the process described above to get the GPS to make a fix? I seems to get it working quicker mind you, so it obviously means the unit has not signed off or retained a memory of the satellites correctly ????
(PS my Edge 1000 gets the GPS fix immediately)
