Back cover broken

Unfortunately I have crushed with my bike on a tree (not a big thing) and my Garmin 1030 smashed also, so the hook on the back cover has been damaged, just one side, as shown in the pic. By the moment I’ve put some glue and it stays there. Is there a replacement item for that? The whole back cover maybe? Why I can’t find anything anywhere? The only way to replace the damaged part is to send my device to the support? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1425802.jpg
  • I’ve not tried these myself but maybe would work for you https://www.dogearsgps.com/

I have used dogs ears on my garmin 810. It worked fine but eventually the rubber pushbuttons on the case perished so I ended up replacing the bottom half of the case.
The problem with using dogs ears is you need to drill into the the case but on the 1030 the mount also includes contacts for the extended battery pack so you would be drilling into these.

The other issue you are going to face is the 1030 does not have casing screws so it can't be split like the 810. The 1030 appears to be ultrasonically welded together or glued.

Please let us know how you go with a fix.
  • Thanks guys, no... I don’t want to drill anything, I’ve found some dogears style clips /caps like that, nice, but I would like to find the right replacement item, I mean, the back cover or what else to replace the damaged part. I’m waiting for some good news from my local dealer. Still, it’s such a frustrating situation, I can’t find any original replacement or information from Garmin about that out there :(
  • Unbelievable, my local dealer says that there is not a replacement item, no back cover, the only way is to replace the device, Garmin offers the new one at 50% in this case (about 300€).
Hey Garmin - Shawn is that true?

That really stinks. Worst case would likely be a $300 refurb, but your best bet would be to call Garmin directly and ask if there is a further discount if you trade the broken one in. I never thought about how the 1030 is a sealed unit, where the 1000 had screws and could easily be opened and fixed.
You might try superglue, epoxy, etc. Or there is this device which superglues over the broken mount, rather than screw.
    Raceware Garmin Tab Repair Part
The only thing about that is, I'm unsure how well the waterproofing would be unless you do a good job gluing the original tab. Good luck, I'm curious if you can update the final outcome.
  • No need to ask...
That‘s Garmin‘s policy: no repairs, no spare-part supply. Only offering refurbished devices.

As peteonbike says: Edge 1030 backcover is not connected by bolts.
Maybe some day there will be covers on market.
For other Edgemodels than 1030 there are:

  • By the moment my glue fixing is working fine so far. I will pospone the hard fight with my local dealer just a bit.
  • Some of newer CA glues work very well in repairs such as this. They use a separate spray on activator which speeds up the curing process. The brand I have frequently used is Star bond and is sold on Amazon. It is available is different viscosities and for this repair the medium viscosity should work out well.
  • I just got a 3D part printed that snap on top of the broken connector and glue with warm glue only for easy replacement in case it breaks again.

THe part is white also hence the result is perfect.

  • Hello. Where you find this part.

    Thank you
