New computer and new software update

I have a new computer and my first ride since moving did not update when i saved it. Now pluged my 1030 in and started Garmin Express, It does not upload the ride I have to add my 1030. But the crazy thing is that it will not add it until the pershing thing does a compulsary upgrade.

I just think this is insane, why do I have to add a device when it is downloading an update already, my view is I don't want software if I am trying to do something else, fortunately the old computer is still working.

Fortunately when I started the old computer my phone ackowledge the upload.

Very puzzling
  • Install Garmin Express.

My mistake I meant Garmion Express, stopping me registering the 1030 until I had authorised new software. Sorry about the spelling (another Garmin Gotcha these boxes do not spellcheck unlike the other tabs in this Browser)

Now 17th I loaded a TCX route and new maps and no sign of the softwere, so I added the 1030 to Garmin Express. But go out riding and the settings are crazy, so no usable sensor information. Route change 0.5 miles warning and if I could tap the screen came back almost immediately up to twice. only not to revert until the next way point.

Also Fisher Price style two lines at an angle, even for roundabouts, and you had to find the arrow on one of the lines to tell which way you were heading, on the 810 it would show a chunk of Map with a turn indicator at the top, so much easier to understand.

Now I did manage to scroll through the screens and found a zebra one there (laps I guess but these were set to absolutly only on the lap button and no screen. Guess the software update was gone because it was now installed on the Garmin "Chocolate Fireguard" 1030. i had not wanted the software because I was too busy to deal with fallout like this.

Now 24th I loaded a gpx incase the Garmin was using the tcx cuesheet to report every bend on the route. So out I went loading the route but not letting it navigate to the start. I was first at the meeting place so went to check the place peple sometimes use because of the WCs, Route Found back to the meeting place, Ultimatel we have assembled so head off Route Found and as we jioned the road Lap1, this should be triggered by the lap button only, pesky settings.

Same old "Choclate Fireguard" notifications 0.5 miles 3minutes onward and tap to return because they did not return on there own. Cafe stop. Restar,t Garmin has been into the cafe Facedwn in my helmet Gloves and glasses then added. So it may have lost satelites and the Course but nothing else., So puzzlingly stopped the excessive nrouting notifications and went back to reasonable, still Fisher Price style turn stuff though. Puzzling, I reviewed the screens only 3, Main default which I had replaced, The main I wanted and Routing, No Map, So reviewed the setting and there were 5 screens Map and a notifictions screen. No zebra, does this mean a second software upgrade?

So finished the ride checked the phone was connected and stoped the garmin and saved ride. Now I got a software down loaded messge during reading the ride stats.

Why Why Why? I seem to be getting no notice of software. I keep the 1030 switched off, So if i take it and plug it into the computer I may miss something in start up. Also I tend to attach the 1030 to the bike switch it on and then put my gloves glasses and helmet on, paying no attention to the Garmin, so again may have missed something. Microsoft even learnt that updates without user acknowlegment alienated customer whose PC rebooted while they had a 10 minute interruption. So why force updates on us 1030 users. Also just before this started saga, I was notified of a Beta I could down load, It came as a zip so the Beta was named and the Back version was named too, but with the warning that you would loose your settings if you chose to use it to downgrade, these upgrades mess with the settings enough to make the 1030 nearly useless, can we have a little control back please Garmin?

Hope Garmin Shawn notices. I now have time to look at settings!

Now to download another map to my low battery 1030.
  • ...you have to buy an Sigma...not an Garmin

  • Just remembered, paused at a mayor road, started off and all h*ll broke out my phone was howling 10 yards after I started and a strange overlay on the 1030. The incident detection had triggered, with no real reason. Fortunately it is cancellable.

Not sure a 1030 has any trade in value with this rubbish softaware. Just checked my settings and they have not changed, just the software does notr seem to know they are there.
  • Just wondering, have you read the instruction manual?
  • This is awfully hard to follow.

You can save the tcx/gpx route file to the \Garmin\NewFiles folder.
