New Public Beta 6.43 Now Available

A new Beta software for the Edge 1030 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found here.
  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.
Changes made from version 6.30 to 6.43:
  • New Beta Feature: Galileo satellites. There is now support to use the Galileo network of satellites to assist in getting GPS fixes. With the correct GPS firmware, this option can be enabled by selecting GPS+Galileo in the GPS setting. Sync the device with Garmin Express to make sure that the new line of GPS firmware is provided to the device. Without this, the option will not be available.
  • Added support for ANT+ cycling dynamics metrics.
  • Updated smart notification categories. In the phone settings, social and other smart notification categories can be enabled. This will make the Edge show notifications from other applications depending on how they are categorized by Garmin Connect Mobile. Apps like WhatsApp, GroupMe, and Twitter may show up under social and things like e-mail, calendar, and news may show up under other. These categories are off by default and must be enabled to be seen.
  • Fixed an issue causing cadence and power data dropouts.
  • Fixed the activity profile routing mode getting reset to Road Cycling mode.
  • Fixed issues with device transfers.
  • Added prompt to indicate when a course has more course points than are supported by the device.
  • Improved Shimano STEPS response time.
  • Fixed lens mode VIRB setting.
  • Fixed issue with transmitting front and rear gear information to the Varia Vision.
  • Fixed sharp bend notifications on the Varia Vision.
  • Fixed issue with elevation back correction that could allow large dips in elevation.
  • Added the current software version to the power on page.
  • Completing a segment will now turn on the backlight.
  • Added a minimum scale to the altimeter page so that small elevation ranges are reflected properly.
  • Improved activity auto-start when the device is stationary.
  • Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
  • Minor CIQ improvements.
Installation Instructions
  • Connect your Edge 1030 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  • Download and unzip Edge1030_643Beta.zip and place the GUPDATE.gcd file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  • Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  • If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-630.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • Two things I noticed after the installation of this Beta:
    1. The GPS accuracy datafield still doesn't work. It is constantly showing 3 meters, no matter what the real GPS accuracy is.
    2. The software version is not shown on my unit during startup. I have configured the startup.txt file to show my name, address and phone number during power on.
Maybe the startup.txt hides the software version?

The software version shows momentarily on the fist screen in small text at the bottom of the screen. It does not stay very long
  • My first ride navigating a course with 6.43 and the turn guidance, which was previously working great was totally screwed.
I uploaded a course from RideWithGPS as I always do. Started navigation & the course calculated. I realised after a few Km that I wasn't getting Turn Guidance prompts. The distance to next was showing what would be the distance to the first turn & distance to destination was the complete course distance.
I restarted the course & as before the course calculated and the distance to next & distance to destination were the same as before.
Here's the bizarre thing, whilst the course was calculating the distance to next & distance to destination were showing the correct values but as soon as the course calculation reached 100% they reverted to the distance to the first turn & complete course distance.
Throughout the ride my position on the elevation profile was in the correct place, my position on the map was exactly where I should be & course points were popping up where they should be. Just no turn guidance & screwed course distance fields.

Edit: I don't know if yesterday's course file was corrupt some way as turn guidance on today's course worked perfectly.

There is still an issue with Sharp Bend warnings when following a course. Despite being disabled in the activity profile, any prompted turn, where the change in direction is greater than 90 degrees is accompanied by a sharp bend WARNINGciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1425429.jpg
  • Is there an advantage in using Galileo+GPS vs. GPS or GPS+Glanoss as a new feature of Beta 6.43 update?
  • First it is NOT everyone that keep lots of routes on their device. Second the Edge is a cycling computer. It is not intended to be a multisport device. There are watches for that. But anyhow as I said the Connect Mobile app can do the filtering and sorting you ask for, so just do that on your phone before you go, pick the route and send it to your device. Manage your routes on your phone instead of the Edge. Keep your Edge clean by deleting unused routes, they will remain in your Connect account/ You can do that now, or keep asking for a functionality that will never come because by design the Edge is a cycling computer only.

    that must be very painful
  • I have 16 apps & datafields on my Edge 1030 so all 16 CIQ slots available are used. GCM Android (v4.12.3) is telling me that I have datafield updates pending however when I try to update them GCM tells me they can't be updated as there aren't any slots available. I have to uninstall an app before I can update another one. Surely the update should just overwrite the existing datafield
